General Statement of DutiesThe Public Works Maintenance Division is looking for a skilled Electrician to join their Traffic Unit.The Traffic Electrician 1 performs Journey level electrical and electronic systems work to maintain street lighting systems and traffic signals, including service installations, and upgrades to equipment.Department/Division: Public Works Department / Maintenance DivisionSalary Range: $36.51 - $45.51 / hourly; $75,940.80 - $94,660.80 / annuallyBenefits: Please click the Benefits Tab to view the City of Eugene's competitive benefit package options.Location: 1820 Roosevelt Blvd., EugeneWork Schedule: Monday – Friday; 6:00 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. Must be willing to work on-call.Application Deadline : Friday, June 21, 2024 - 5:00 p.m. Accepting on-line applications only. Examples of Duties Performed - Duties may include but are not limited to the followingInstalls, maintains, tests, troubleshoots, and repairs a variety of electrical equipment, power distribution systems, communication, instrumentation, and control equipment.Repairs, modifies, and installs new electrical circuits, lighting, street lighting, traffic signals, and alarms controls. Performs routine and preventative maintenance.Be available and respond to emergency after hours. These calls may require performing utility locates. Responds to emergencies involving electrical systems and equipment. Performs a variety of electrical construction and structural installation or maintenance; operates a variety of hand and power tools to perform work, including aerial and crane trucks.Maintain accurate and detailed records and tracking systems.May lead the work of other staff at a work site assisting on a specific project.Ensures that repairs and installations are safe and operate properly; evaluates installation for safety operation; reviews the work of contractors and ensures compliance with specifications and standards.Plans and organizes assigned jobs; estimates time, materials, and equipment; orders and purchases materials; coordinates job activities with other trades, professionals, and inspectors on suggested changes and modifications.Actively supports and respects diversity in the workplace.Performs other related duties as assigned.QualificationsStudies have shown that women and people of color are less likely to apply for jobs unless they believe they are able to perform every task in the job description. If you are interested in applying, we encourage you to think broadly about your background and skill set for the role.A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:Experience:Two years journey-level experience in the electrical trades.Training: Specialized training program in electrical construction and maintenance.License or Certificate: State of Oregon General Journeyman Electrical license.

Traffic Signal ODOT certified Traffic Signal Inspector certification, or ability to obtain.

IMSA Traffic Signal Technician Level 1 certification, ability to obtain within three years of hire.

IMSA Traffic Signal Technician Level 2 certification, ability to obtain within four years of hire.

Possession of, or ability to obtain, and maintain a valid Oregon State Driver's License with appropriate classification or endorsement as determined by the equipment operated.The Ideal Candidate will possess the following Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:Knowledge of: The current National Electric Code and Oregon Specialty Code.Traffic Signal Theory.State and local traffic signal and streetlight specifications.Related computer programs, software, and technology.Standard electrical trade maintenance, construction, and design techniques.Hazards and safety precautions involving electrical work and working in Right-of-Way.Aerial and electrical high voltage work zone safety.Ability to: Exercise considerable independent judgment in coordinating and performing work.Operate computer control software and peripherals.Keep accurate records and prepare written reports.Read electrical construction drawings and/or wiring schematics.Plan, organize, assign, and review the work of others.Provide training and guidance to other employees.Establish effective working relationships with City employees, local utilities, and vendors.Perform physical work outdoors in varying weather conditions.Provide and wear personal protective equipment as required.Be available and respond for emergency call-back as necessary.Skill in:Electrical repair work and maintenance of electrical systems.The use of a variety of power and manual tools standard to the electrical and mechanical trades.The use of a variety of electrical testing and troubleshooting procedures and the operation of related test equipment.
