The Knight Campus reshapes the higher education landscape in Oregon by training the next generations of scientists, forging tighter ties with industry and entrepreneurs, and creating new educational opportunities for graduate and undergraduate students.The Knight Campus is dedicated to developing a robust menu of training and professional development opportunities for faculty and students in the sciences. Examples of programming include a number of degree-granting, graduate training programs in the physical and life sciences. The purpose of these programs is to train scientists in an accelerated academic format and provide opportunities for real-world knowledge and skills necessary to be successful in the industrial environment.The Knight Campus expects to grow to at least 30 research programs in the 2030s from the 11 active in 2023. Supported by outstanding research facilities within the Knight Campus and with full access to the shared facilities, equipment, and services of the main UO Campus, Knight Campus faculty are expected to excel in sponsored research, teaching and service to their community. Knight Campus faculty-led labs range in focus from 3D printing and laser microfabrication to gene therapy, tissue regeneration, and polymer chemistry. In fiscal year 2023, sponsored awards totaled over $20 million from a range of funders including the NIH, NSF, and foundations. Position SummaryThis position is the second in command to the Vice President for all research and academic matters at the Knight Campus. It is responsible for the development and implementation of an overall Knight Campus training and professional development plan and has a leading role in the development of degree-granting academic programs. The position has supervisory responsibility for the administrative leads for existing degree-granting graduate programs. The position has financial authority for accounts related to academic programming, research core facilities located in the Knight Campus, and large, shared equipment refresh programs. The position is the lead in developing and maintaining a laboratory safety culture throughout the facilities. The position will provide leadership and representation of Knight Campus initiatives and programs within the University and externally as requested by the Vice President/Executive Director. Minimum Requirements Ph.D. or equivalent from an accredited institution of higher education. Distinguished record in teaching, research/creative activity, and professional service sufficient to merit appointment as a tenured Associate or Full Professor at the University of Oregon. Experience in applied training program in scientific fields. Professional Competencies Strong professional communication, interpersonal, and public relations skills. Ability to represent the organization in a professional manner, recruit, and work within a diverse community, and follow all university policies and procedures. Experience managing financial accounts with a preference for individuals who have managed budgets related to federally funded sponsored research. Demonstrated organizational, time management, multi-tasking, and planning capabilities. Preferred Qualifications Faculty appointment in bioengineering, biomedical engineering, materials science, materials engineering, biology, chemistry, or physics. 10 years of experience in instruction at an accredited institution of higher education. 10 years of demonstrated experience working with business entities on research and development activities. 5 years of experience in management of professional and technical employees.
