Description Do you have proven experience in a payroll position, strong knowledge of tax and wage laws, and good understanding of the common fiscal procedures? Robert Half is looking for Payroll Specialists in the Eugene area to assist with frequent needs from our clients. A payroll specialist is primarily responsible for processing payroll and maintaining the employee database regarding salary and pay. Other duties include managing the company budget and expense as well as cooperating with different departments to increase payroll service performance and improve upon the payroll system.Job Duties:
Process and manage employee payroll in an accurate and timely manner.
Calculate wages, deductions, and taxes based on company policies and legal regulations.
Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax laws and reporting requirements.
Maintain and update employee payroll records and databases.
Collaborate with HR and finance teams to reconcile payroll discrepancies.
Generate and distribute pay statements, reports, and summaries to employees.
Respond to employee inquiries regarding payroll matters in a professional and helpful manner.
Stay informed about changes in payroll regulations and best practices.
Assist in the preparation of payroll-related reports for management.
Perform regular audits to ensure data accuracy and integrity.
Process new hires, terminations, and employee status changes in the payroll system.
Manage garnishments, deductions, and benefits contributions accurately.
Coordinate with external agencies, such as insurance providers and retirement funds.
Participate in payroll software implementation and updates, if necessary.
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field preferred.
Proven work experience as a Payroll Specialist or similar role.
Strong understanding of payroll principles, tax regulations, and labor laws.
Proficiency in using payroll software and Microsoft Excel for data manipulation.
Attention to detail and high level of accuracy in data entry and calculations.
Excellent organizational and time management skills.
Strong communication skills to interact with employees and colleagues effectively.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
Analytical mindset to identify and resolve discrepancies.
Problem-solving skills to address payroll-related issues.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Familiarity with HRIS (Human Resources Information System) is a plus.
