Position AnnouncementThe University of Oregon’s Mathematics Department invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in pure mathematics, to begin in fall 2025. Competitive applicants will have a record of research excellence, a demonstrated potential for outstanding teaching, and a commitment to promoting an inclusive community. Department or Program SummaryWe are a diverse and growing department with strengths in Algebraic Geometry, Analysis, Combinatorics, Differential Geometry, Mathematical Biology, Number Theory, Representation Theory, Topology, and Probability. The department has a thriving Ph.D. program with approximately 60 graduate students, 33 tenured and tenure-track faculty, 8 postdocs, and 15 lecturers. We particularly welcome applications from scholars who are from populations historically underrepresented in the academy, and/or who have experience working with students from diverse backgrounds.In addition to our focus on research excellence, our department is constantly adjusting to improve our undergraduate and graduate experience. For example, in recent years we have gathered statistics for gateway classes and classes with high failure rates or high inequity in grade distributions, we have revised the curriculum, prerequisites, and pedagogy of various math sequences, we have streamlined the process for graduate qualifying exams, and we have started a peer mentoring program for recently-declared majors.Junior faculty in mathematics will be supported through the transition to tenure, including reduced service expectations and access to university-wide programs (which include new faculty mentorship, and training in teaching through the Teaching Engagement Program). The math department invests in the success of each new member and seeks to support faculty in successful and impactful careers while maintaining a healthy work-life balance. Minimum Requirements Ph.D. in Mathematics, Statistics, or a closely related field One year of postdoctoral work. A record of excellence in research commensurate with career stage.
