The Green Tortoise Adventure Travel guide position provides an opportunity to travel to iconic destinations in California and beyond. This position provides the chance to gain experience working with teens while camping and exploring the outdoors.
THIS POSITION REQUIRES TRAVEL TO THE BAY AREA IN CALIFORNIA.
Green Tortoise Adventure Travel facilitates milestone adventures for 8th grade graduates every spring. Many of our school group clients utilize Waldorf-based education. We believe our adventures allow young teenagers to gain confidence in their transition to greater independence as they move on to high school. Our trips are built to be fun, bonding experiences for the students, as well as introduce or reinforce a passion for travel and nature. Green Tortoise guides serve as role models for our student passengers and exemplify responsible travel, stewardship for the outdoors, and community building skills.
The company philosophy was self-defined over the years. It includes tolerance, inclusion, self reliance, team spirit and empathy between drivers, guides, & passengers.
THE EMPLOYEE EXPERIENCE
A Green Tortoise guide for our 8th grade milestone adventures would help shape the trip experience by leading fun and engaging activities. Guides are in charge of planning creative activities and implementing programming like games, crafts, or leading group chats. All trips are 5- to 7-day overnight camping trips that sometimes involve moving camp on a daily basis.
The guide accompanies the class during most planned activities, including hiking. Occasionally, the guide may be responsible for chaperoning a group no larger than 5 students during an activity like exploring Cannery Row in Monterey, California.
Guides are also active participants in the set up of our camp kitchen, preparation of meals, and clean up. You are not required to have any particular cooking skills, just an openness to learn and participate, as well as supervise students while preparing food and cleaning.
