Alaska Children’s Trust - Alaska Afterschool Network

AmeriCorps - Afterschool STEM Coach

Launch rockets, erupt volcanoes, code robots, design roller coasters, study wildlife, and engineer solutions with students during after school hours as an Afterschool STEM Coach. STEM Coaches engage K-5 students in fun, hands-on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) learning and guide students as they develop their creativity, explore technologies, and engage in scientific inquiry. Participants commit to one year of service as an AmeriCorps member at an existing afterschool program providing academic enrichment, social emotional learning, and wellness opportunities for school-age youth in Alaska. For their service, STEM Coaches receive both a living stipend and an education award, as well as professional development, and experience to advance their careers while living in the amazing state of Alaska. Supervision

STEM Coaches will report directly to their Site Supervisor(s) and to the AmeriCorps Program Specialist

Afterschool STEM Coach - Term of Service

Term Length: 1 year (11 Months)

Start Date : Sept 3rd 2024

End Date: August 1st 2025

Required Hours of Service: 1700 minimum

Daily Schedule: 7-8 hours days, 5 days/week

Cash Stipend: $18,700.00

Education Award: $6,895.00

Monthly cell phone allowance: $50.00

Monthly housing benefit: $1,000.00

Job Duties:

Facilitate a positive and safe learning environment for diverse student learners during afterschool program hours (3:00 - 6:00 PM).

Lead hands-on activities with students at an afterschool program, including at least two 30-minute STEM activities per week.

Engage diverse STEM career professionals as guest speakers.

Expand your knowledge of youth development and STEM education by engaging in ongoing professional development to ensure student success.

Build positive relationships with students, coworkers, and supervisors.

Submit timesheets and program data measure student impact.

Commit to fulfilling required member service hours within your service term.

Model the AmeriCorps ethic of community service and responsibility and show a commitment to improving the lives of others.
