When you become bus driver with Mid Columbia Bus Company, you're contributing to a better future in Oregon! Currently hiring drivers in Philomath. Once you have completed our Paid Training and Licensing Program, you will possess the ability, knowledge, and tools required to be a successful school bus driver. School Bus drivers are responsible for safely transporting students to and from school and related events. School bus drivers pick up students at a designated location, such as street corners or homes and drop them off at school.

Pay: Route wage starts at $21.50/hr

Hours: 16-20hrs/week

Duties and Responsibilities:

Transport students in a timely manner to and from school and/or school activities

Following safety procedures, rules and regulations.

Operate and safely drive a school bus in various weather, road and traffic conditions.

Comply with traffic regulations while operating vehicles in a safe and courteous manner.

Communicate bus rules, safety and behavior requirements to passengers.

Address improper behavior immediately while using appropriate interpersonal communication skills.

Communicate with student's parents to solve inappropriate or unsafe behavior.

Utilizing strong interpersonal communication skills.

Assist students and passengers boarding and unloading the bus when necessary (potentially including students in wheelchairs or adaptive equipment.)

Inspect buses daily to identify and report deficiencies.

Perform vehicle maintenance procedures to monitor fluid and fuel levels, tire pressure and any other normal daily maintenance as required.

Interior cleaning and interior washing of buses.

Regulate heating, lighting, and ventilating systems for passenger comfort.

Responsible to know rules, regulations and laws concerning operation of a school bus; and comply with all traffic regulations.

(Regulations may be governed as Federal, State or District)

Comply with DOT drug and alcohol testing requirements.

Complete all records and reports timely and accurately and submit to Transportation Department.

Read maps, follow written and geographic directions according to route / trip logs.

Operation of a two-way radio.

Maintain cleanliness to ensure safe operating conditions.

Performs other duties as assigned by leadership.

Experience and Skill Requirements:

Ability to obtain a Class B CDL With Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) endorsements. (Paid training available).

Ability to pass medical examination (Physical with Occupational Medicine in Albany or Corvallis).

Clear driving record.

Written Communication: Good writing skills using good spelling, punctuation, grammar; detail-oriented in editing written documents; ability to present numerical and statistical data effectively; and ability to accurately interpret and communicate written information.

Planning and Organizing: Ability to prioritize and plan work activities to ensure the timely completion of projects and development of realistic action plans.

Quality: Demonstrate accuracy and thoroughness and monitor own work to ensure quality.

Adaptability: Able to quickly adapt and respond to a rapidly changing work environment and manage competing demands in a productive manner.

Dependability: Demonstrated ability to consistently be at work and on time as scheduled, follow instructions, respond to management direction, and solicit feedback to improve performance.
