Organic Farm - Value Added Chef Assistant

Gathering Together Farm is hiring a seasonal employee to join our food processing crew. This position exists to participate in the processing of all value-added products produced by Gathering Together Farm and sold through various marketing channels.

This position is part time, with the potential for more hours.

Monday – Wednesday from 10am – 3 pm

Food Production

Roast tomatoes, tomatillos, and peppers for use in salsa production, in the restaurant, and for retail sale.

Prepare dry ingredients (spices, onions, garlic, etc.) for salsa production.

Assist in the production and packaging of salsa for farmer’s markets and the farmstand.

Process other food items as necessary, potentially including (but not limited to) fermented goods, corn, berries, and rhubarb.

Logistics, Communication, & Coordination

Work with the Fermentation and Preservation Chef to maintain food processing records for all processed goods.

Assist in maintaining the organization of coolers and freezers.

Food processing is second in priority to the kitchen. Work with the Fermentation and Preservation Chef to work around the kitchen’s needs (oven times, equipment, space, etc.).

Coordinate with Fermentation and Preservation Chef to ensure all food processing supplies and ingredients are on hand at all times.

Safety

Work with the Fermentation and Preservation Chef to stay knowledgeable about current food laws and regulations and how to ensure compliance.

Ensure that processing procedures are followed, and accurate records of processing are maintained.

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:

Must have the ability to remain calm in a stressful work environment and effectively use time management skills.

Excellent organizational skills.

High attention to detail.

Excellent communication skills.

Minimum Requirements:

● High School Diploma or GED is required.

Physical requirements

● Physically capable of lifting at least 50lbs, standing for long periods of time, and working in a warm environment.

Schedule:

Schedule is flexible could be 25-40 hours a week.

This is a seasonal position that would last from August through the end of October. Possible opportunity to extend dependent upon the availability of work.

Compensation:

● Starting wages dependent on experience - $15-16/hr

● Daily Farm Lunch five days per week
