Irrigation Technician

$18.00 -$20.00/hour depending on knowledge and experience

Full-time 35–40 hours/week (weather dependent)

Duration: February – November with potential for winter work, TBD

Seeking experienced person to round out our professional landscape team who is committed to learning and implementing sustainable/ecological gardening practices. Irrigation work includes helping to install & retrofit designs, troubleshooting irrigation problems, making basic repairs and conducting spring turn-on adjustments and fall blow out for winterization. In addition, this person may be involved in other aspects of landscaping when irrigation work is not pending.

Duties

Ensuring accurate, efficient repairs to irrigation systems as needed.

Pricing out repairs and estimates for various jobs.

Discussing client requests with supervisor before completing work and following up with all assigned work orders. 

Creating and updating hydro zone maps to keep in client files. 

Winterizing properties to prevent irrigation pipes from freezing. 

Completing daily work logs.

Maintaining safe working conditions on job sites.  

Managing all tools and equipment in vehicle, keeping it clean, organized and well stocked with essential supplies. 

Performing other duties as assigned. 

Desired Experience/Skills

Completion of an Irrigation/Landscape Training Program or 2 years of mentored field experience.

Knowledge or willingness to learn how to apply water conservation strategies to irrigation systems.

Problem solving and effective communication skills. 

Ability to use technology to track jobs, record work completed and manage smart controllers. 

Must be able to articulate problems to client and/or personnel at irrigation supply stores.  

Caring, safe and committed to high quality work.

Ability to multi-task and manage time effectively with a crew. 

Ability to work extended hours, including nights and weekends (in an emergency). 

Familiarity or willingness to learn to operate sod cutters, bobcats, mowers, weed whackers, etc.

Working Conditions

Must have ability to do physical labor and other strenuous repetitive physical tasks; easily lift 40lbs, stand, stoop, kneel and material handling for extended time periods. Work occurs approximately March through November in all types of weather; however, some part-time work is available during the winter, depending on crew and YGC needs.

Benefits

After one year with the company employees are eligible for sick days and paid vacation. Opportunities for growth include regular staff trainings and promotion potential. Irrigation Truck provided from Base Office. Employees also get snacks, occasional free produce and flexible part-time work schedules. Must have valid Oregon driver’s license and clean driving record and pass criminal history check.

Individuals with leadership skills qualify for growth as a Crew Leader and or Irrigation Designer.
