About the job:

The Facilities Specialist 2 is responsible for assisting the Facilities Supervisor by leading projects and/or staff and performing skilled facility maintenance and construction trades on work assignments and projects.

A day in the life:

Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:

Constructs, remodels, and maintains park facilities.

Responsible for construction projects including carpentry, plumbing, office furniture, fixtures, playground inspections and repairs, lock sets and hardware, key program, hard surfaces, lavatories, concrete, painting, roofing, doors, windows, masonry, and appliances.

Monitors and repairs pool equipment including: controllers, water filtration, chemistry, pumps, motors, and heat exchangers.

Conducts park and facility inspections. Assesses repair and new construction needs.

HVAC system monitoring, preventative maintenance and repairs.

Minor electrical work including ballasts, lamp replacement and switches.

Coordinates, plans, assigns, and reviews the work of employees assigned to project.

Participates in and directs the work of crews while in progress; provides guidance and training in procedures and techniques as needed to ensure quality and quantity of work meets standards.

Obtains required building permits and inspections as needed for each job assignment.

Documents field changes to blueprints during construction.

Identifies and purchases materials for job assignments.

Provides assistance and guidance to public park users as needed.

Maintains equipment and keeps in clean and safe condition; operates equipment safely and with care at all times.

Identifies safety-related issues and ensures that safe conditions prevail in all park facilities.

Reads, interprets, and advises on the preparation of construction drawings.

Acts as a Mandatory Reporter; reports incidents of child abuse/neglect.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Schedule:

Sunday - Thursday

6:30am - 3:00pm

Requirements

What you'll need for success:

Strong Knowledge of:

Principles, practices and methods used in building; basic construction materials and principles; best practices of maintenance management; and maintenance and safe operation of powered equipment and hand tools.

Skill and Ability to:

Effectively communicate with others verbally and in writing, including by phone, e-mail or in person to successfully complete assigned projects; strong planning, organizational, leadership, and interpersonal skills; accurately calculate and apply mathematical formulas; proficiently operate standard office equipment including computers and basic computer programs; demonstrate independent judgment, initiative and work independently; effectively direct and motivate staff including plan and direct activities of subordinate employees; establish and maintain effective, cooperative and respectful working relationships with all contacts; and read and interpret construction drawings.

What we're looking for:

Education, Experience, and Training:

1.High school diploma or equivalent; two years of trade or technical school preferred; AND

2.Four (4) years of experience in park services, public works, or related field with emphasis on facility maintenance and/or specialized construction trade; some aquatics or recreation facility experience preferred OR

3.Any satisfactory combination of education, experience and training.

Licenses and Certifications:

Ability to obtain valid Oregon driver’s license within 30 days with an acceptable driving history as defined by district driving policy.

Ability to obtain Certified Pool Operators License within 6 months

Some positions may require possession of a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).

Some positions may require certification relevant to facilities and/or construction.

Supervision Received:

Works under the supervision of a supervisor. Follows standard processes and procedures without supervision but confirms changes to standard practices and significant decisions in advance.

Supervision Exercised:

May provide direction and leadership over a crew of both staff and volunteers assigned to projects or work assignments.

Working Conditions:

Duties are performed indoors and outdoors with exposure to inclement weather, including heat, cold, humidity, wind, snow, and rain.

Daily standing and walking over uneven terrain, such as parks and trails, with up/down inclines, paved and unpaved surfaces for sustained periods of time.

May require working for emergency call-outs during off duty hours.

Presence of paints, chemicals, and pesticides may pose slight health hazard.

Safety equipment, including shoes, gloves, and eye protection are required.

Making substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers and constant use of hands and arms and may require overhead reaching.

Exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Physical work includes climbing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, grasping, bending, keyboarding, and repetitive hand and feet motion.
