Residential Construction Estimator

SUN FOREST CONSTRUCTION, Central Oregon’s most longstanding and diversified custom home builder and remodeling company well known for its integrity, quality and service has an opening for a highly skilled Residential Estimator. The candidates we are seeking will have the knowledge and skills that include the following:

Position Summary:

The Estimator interfaces with the Sun Forest team, subcontractors and vendors to assist with putting together cost estimates and accurate material take-off packages for construction projects. This includes being familiar with plans and specifications, distributing a project scope of work for each trade, and coordinating subcontractor walks at the jobsite. The Estimator will also assist with reviewing subcontractor and supplier estimates for accuracy, both of price and timeline. An additional duty is to respond to homeowner call-backs for both Remodel and Custom Homes.

Qualifications:

1. 3-5 Years of experience with residential estimating and sales, with proven track record for successful sales in smaller kitchen/bath remodels as well as large, high-end whole house remodel jobs and new construction projects.

2. Experience with developing bid packets containing project specific scopes of work for each trade, gathering comparable and complete bids from subcontractors.

3. Interpreting plans and pricing the project accordingly.

4. Experience with working on multiple projects and/or bids concurrently.

5. General construction experience in a project management role.

6. Must be able to read and understand a complex set of plans and be familiar with building codes.

7. Computer literate with construction estimating software.

8. Good driving record.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:

Must have the skill and ability to interpret complex architectural plans, details & blueprints.

Must have the skill to perform the mathematical functions necessary, to include material amount estimating, standard mathematics of volume, area, and use of standard non-metric measuring devices, and calculation of angles as they relate to carpentry, and be able to perform actual material take offs from architectural blueprints.

Should be knowledgeable with standard residential building codes and techniques.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required.

Must be able to work independently, and be an effective decision maker, with the ability to solve problems quickly and appropriately.

Well organized and an effective time manager, to ensure that all aspects of the tasks assigned are completed on schedule.

Excellent interpersonal skills to be able to deal effectively & professionally with co-workers, clients, sub-contractors, vendors, and others involved with business operations

High ethical standards & be able to uphold Sun Forest’s excellent reputation in the business community.

Must have the physical ability to meet the demands of the position, which include prolonged sitting and use of computer workstation, occasional bending, stooping and kneeling to review project site conditions, frequent walking on uneven job site surfaces, frequent driving and visits to various offices and job sites. Will occasionally be exposed to severe weather conditions, and be around construction dust, occasional paint and lacquer fumes, and construction noise. Call back duties could include light carpentry repair work using small tools. Job Duties & Responsibilities:

1.Assists the Remodel sales and project management teams to develop bid packets containing project specific scopes of work for each trade. Bid packets will include a Sun Forest bid form that will assist in gathering comparable and complete bids from subcontractors.

2.Assist with the review of plans and pricing information for accuracy. Track down any missing or incorrect information and maintain positive relationships with everyone involved with the estimating process.

3.May also assist with estimating duties for the Custom Homes division, as needed.

4.Effectively & professionally communicate and follow-through in a timely manner with clients, co-workers, subcontractors, vendors and others.

5.Exhibits good judgment, high ethical standards, and competent decision making skills at all times, and represents Sun Forest reputably with our clients, staff, suppliers, business associates, and in the community.
