Hours – Typically, normal business hours

Summary of Duties:
The Safety Program Manager position develops, manages, and maintains safety programs for COIC departments including public transportation, Cascades East Transit (CET). This position will oversee and ensure organizational and employee compliance with applicable laws, safety regulations, and industry standards. The position will report to all COIC Department Directors as assigned. Primary duties include the exercise of discretion and independent judgment with respect to matters of safety practices and policies for COIC departments.
Essential Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- At least six (6) years of work experience as a safety specialist, safety manager, or other comparable safety related job; OR a Bachelor’s Degree in a related field (such as Occupational Safety or Safety Management, Industrial Engineering, Business or Public Administration, Environmental Health & Science) PLUS at least two (2) years of work experience in a job providing oversite or managing safety programs, safety training, or comparable work.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operations and maintenance instructions, procedures, and manuals.
- Knowledge of or ability to interpret and apply Federal and State program requirements based on statutes, regulations, and program guidelines.
- Knowledge of Safety Elements (Material Safety Data Sheets, OSHA Training, etc.)
- Knowledge of safety culture, ergonomics, and workplace wellness
- Superb communication skills:
- Ability to write comprehensive reports and professional correspondence
- Ability to speak effectively with customers, employees, and peers
- Ability to produce and present reports and project details
- Organize and facilitate effective meetings, prepare, and give presentations
- Teamwork/leadership:
- Possess a strong commitment to team dynamics and resolving group conflict, strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Work independently and diplomatically, as well as ability to work as part of a team, work with diverse groups and varied individuals.
- Technology:
- Above average proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook;
- Working knowledge and experience with planned maintenance, asset management, and work order software and various database software
- Must be able to pass and maintain and clean a criminal background
- Valid driver's license and access to private vehicle or equivalent means of transportation
- Must maintain client and agency confidentiality
