Are you passionate about nature, science, and community engagement? Do you love crafting creative promotional content and bringing people together for fun, educational opportunities? If so, we want YOU to join our team as our Community Engagement Coordinator! This is a part-time position averaging 30 hours/week at a rate of $38,000 - 42,000/year. There is potential for this to grow into a full-time position.

Position Summary: You will play a key role in connections here at SNCO, sharing the magic of our natural world and the wonders of the cosmos with visitors of all ages. Your purpose within our team is to proactively seek strategies that lift SNCO’s visibility and entice locals and visitors to engage with and support our mission. This role is the creative force behind our communications and community presence, ensuring that SNCO and our Second Tern Thrift Store reach a wide and diverse audience.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Marketing:

o Collaborate within the Development Team to create a Marketing Plan and Calendar

o Implement plans to ensure consistent messaging across all communication channels, building our brand identity and voice while furthering our mission

o Manage our website and all social media platforms (primarily Facebook and Instagram)

o Design compelling, eye-catching digital and print content, materials, and publications to promote all programs, events, and campaigns

o Optimize physical signage on the SNCO and Second Tern campuses, including logo/info/directional signage, interpretive signs, and memorial plaques/bricks

o Utilize data to track marketing performance and adjust strategies accordingly

o Monitor trends, innovations, and best practices – then apply this knowledge to enhance SNCO’s presence in person, in print, and online

o Create and order all materials needed by our internal team including collateral, business cards, envelopes, letterhead, notecards, etc.

2. Events:

o Lead the logistics of community-centered events– including the Wildflower Show & Pollinator Festival (spring) and Fungi Fest (fall); with plans to expand in the future!

3. Memberships:

o Serve as the main contact for members, providing excellent customer service

o Collaborate with staff to create member-only benefits and opportunities, and promote these to ensure all members enjoy and renew their membership

o Process all membership sales and renewals; mail member letters, cards, and benefits

o Maintain thorough and accurate member records in our contact database

4. Community Partnerships:

o Build relationships with media partners, local businesses, community partner organizations, service clubs, schools, and more to ensure widespread reach

o Serve as the main contact for and represent SNCO at community events

Other Details:

Education and/or history of success in marketing and event planning

Creative talent in graphic design, with the ability to craft eye-catching, engaging materials

Extensive website and social media management experience

Superb communication skills and a penchant for providing high quality customer service

Exceptional organizational skills, magical multitasking abilities, and a hawk’s eye for detail

A positive attitude and an open-minded, out-of-the-box approach to problem solving

Passion for astronomy, native wildlife + plants, etc. – knowledge in these areas is a definite plus!

Other Details:

Supervisory Responsibility: No direct reports – though you will lead our “Social Media Squad,” comprised of staff and volunteers from each program/department

Work Environment: While performing the duties of this job, you will work mainly indoors at a computer seated at a desk, and occasionally outdoors (which may include extreme temperatures)

Requirements: This position requires some travel to events and locations off-site; you must possess and maintain a valid Oregon state driver's license. Ideally you have the ability to lift 25 lbs.
