Reports To: Executive Director

About Think Wild

Think Wild is a 501(c)(3) wildlife conservation center in Bend, Oregon. Through wildlife rehabilitation, education, humane wildlife-conflict services, and habitat restoration, we inspire our high-desert community to care for and protect native wildlife.

Position Overview

The Facilities and Property Coordinator keeps the Think Wild campus safe, functional, and welcoming for wildlife, staff, volunteers, and visitors. The role blends hands-on facilities work, contractor coordination and project management of construction projects, property and vehicle upkeep, light construction, and volunteer group support.

Compensation

Hourly, $22-26 DOE, along with mileage reimbursement, phone stipend, paid sick time off, and company retirement contribution after a year of employment. Position may be 20–40 hrs/week with a flexible schedule.

Key Responsibilities

Facilities Maintenance & Operations

Coordinate onsite plumbing, electrical, HVAC, facilities, utilities, Wi-Fi, printing, septic, trash/recycling, and other systems to ensure they function properly and efficiently.

Schedule and liaise with contractors, plumbers, electricians, volunteers, HVAC techs, etc. for ongoing and capital infrastructure projects.

Perform routine facility and equipment cleaning and minor repairs and maintain a log of these routine maintenance requirements.

Restock facility and hospital supplies (e.g., paper towels, gloves, soap, cleaning supplies) to ensure consistent availability.

Support general hospital and facility cleanliness through regular cleaning, disinfecting, and tidying of common and staff-use areas.

Maintain trash and recycling systems—monitor bins, remove waste as needed, and coordinate pick-up or dump runs.

Troubleshoot system issues and ensure timely fixes.

Keep tool and equipment sheds tidy; track batteries, chargers, and small-engine tools.

Oversee Think Wild vehicles—oil changes, tires, repair appointments—and maintain service records.

Run occasional errands such as picking up supplies, transporting equipment, or handling facility-related logistics.

Serve as project manager/facilitator for When on-site volunteer groups tackle facilities projects (painting, staining, organizing), by providing task lists, guidance, and quality checks.

Property & Grounds Maintenance

Mow, weed-whack, water, and maintain landscaped and natural areas.

Maintain and enhance native habitat zones, including our educational native pollinator garden—planting, weeding, mulching, and signage upkeep.

Remove invasives, manage burn piles, and keep walkways clear; coordinate dump runs.

Handle seasonal needs (snow, leaf, fire-fuel reduction).

Direct volunteers assisting with grounds care, habitat restoration, or debris clean-up.

Construction & Repairs

Help build, repair, or outfit wildlife enclosures and outdoor education features (e.g., picnic tables, shade structures).

Perform minor carpentry and hardware fixes; guide volunteer groups on these projects.

Pitch in on occasional enclosure cleaning or retrofits.

Procurement & Organization

Price, purchase, or secure donated tools, parts, and capital items.

Track inventory of maintenance supplies, cleaning products, and landscaping materials.

Ensure all equipment is stored safely and ready for use.

Additional Opportunities

If desired, pick up extra hours on habitat-restoration and wildlife-services field projects across Central and Eastern Oregon during peak seasons.

Qualifications

Required:

Experience in facilities maintenance, landscaping, carpentry, or a related trade

Basic knowledge of plumbing, electrical, HVAC systems, and hand/power tools

Ability to perform light construction tasks (e.g., painting, staining, basic repairs)

Familiarity with landscaping and small-engine equipment (e.g., mowers, trimmers, battery-powered tools)

Strong organizational skills, including maintaining tools, supplies, and workspaces

Ability to lift 50 lbs and work outdoors in all weather conditions

Valid driver’s license and ability to pass a background check

Enthusiasm for wildlife conservation and environmental stewardship

Preferred:

3+ years in a facilities, property management, or maintenance role—preferably with a nonprofit, park, or educational setting

Experience coordinating contractors or service providers (e.g., plumbing, HVAC, pest control)

Knowledge of native habitat maintenance, invasive species removal, and pollinator garden care

Experience with vehicle upkeep, including basic maintenance and service scheduling

Comfort leading volunteers or work crews on restoration or facilities projects

Familiarity with wildlife enclosures or outdoor education infrastructure

Basic troubleshooting skills for WiFi, printers, and related tech

Certifications in OSHA safety, pesticide application, or first aid
