Job Description:
As the Director of Engineering at MCE Aero, you lead and grow our engineering organization. This role is responsible for overseeing all technical activities, from early-stage R&D through design, analysis, testing, and certification. You will play a key role in strategic planning, talent development, and project execution, ensuring our engineering output meets the highest standards of performance, safety, and compliance.
As the Director of Engineering, your responsibilities include leading and managing the engineering team at MCE Aero, overseeing multiple projects, providing engineering guidance, coordinating workload among team members, assisting with design and development of aircraft systems and structures, reviewing and approving technical drawings and substantiation documents for certification projects, participating in meetings, traveling as necessary, and serving as the engineering focal for MCE’s clients.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide technical and strategic leadership across all engineering functions, including design, analysis, prototyping, and certification.
- Drive execution of multiple simultaneous projects, balancing quality, cost, and schedule requirements.
- Lead and mentor a multidisciplinary team of engineers.
- Collaborate with customers, suppliers, and regulatory agencies.
- Ensure engineering processes meet FAA certification standards.
- Identify and implement best practices in design assurance, testing, and documentation.
- Contribute to business development, proposal writing, and technical presentations.
Required Experience:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Aerospace, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
- 10+ years of progressive experience in aerospace engineering, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
- Deep knowledge of aircraft structures, mechanical systems, and composite materials.
- Proven experience leading teams through product development lifecycles in a regulated environment.
- Expert level in Solid Works.
- Familiarity with FAA certification processes.
- Proficiency in MS Office & collaborative project management tools
- Strong communication skills, both technical and interpersonal.
