Location: Bend, OR

Status: Salary

Schedule: Year-round, Full-time schedule based on an average of 35 hours per week (fluctuates seasonally based upon the needs of the programs). Includes hours after school, on school holidays (Bend-La Pine Schools) and on weekends. Unscheduled hours are flexible with the ability to do work from home.

Position Overview:

Camp Fire specializes in leadership and service opportunities for teens with an emphasis on youth acting as contributing community members now. This includes hosting service clubs, job training programs and leader-in-training programs.

The Teen Programs Coordinator will be responsible for all aspects of our Teen Service and Leadership programs including: development, recruitment, partnerships, staff management (as applicable), planning, and program implementation. They will work closely with the Program Manager to collect program quality data and to develop and expand upon our current offerings in the future.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

-Facilitate teen programs with the guidance of the Program Manager. Programs include:

School Year

- Teen Connects: single day volunteer opportunities for teens

- Teens in Action: 8-week service club with weekly meetings and curriculum

Babysitting certification courses

- Kids Night Out events

- Youth Advisory Committee to Bend City Council

- Junior Counselor internship program

Summer

- 4 weeks of Service Challenges

- 2 weeks of SKY Leaders

- 1 week of Junior Counselor Internship training and subsequent mentoring

-Work with Manager, and Bend City Council representatives to develop and pilot the first ever Youth Advisory Committee to Bend City Council

- Coordinate with Camp Fire’s Marketing and Outreach team to support planning and execution of Camp Fire events that rely heavily on teen volunteers, including fundraising events

- Liaise with local high schools and colleges to support interns that can satisfy their practicum hours by assisting at Camp Fire programs

- Develop and implement program routines to build community, to grow relationships, to inspire new interests and a sense of purpose, and to incorporate youth voice and leadership.

- Create a sense of belonging for all youth through daily age-appropriate icebreaker activities, team challenges and reflections

- Recognize and create social and emotional learning opportunities within programs

- Manage a safe physical and emotional space for youth through direct interactions with youth and parents/guardians and thoughtful behavior policies, including quickly responding to medical or behavioral incidents.

- Communicate expectations and needs clearly with participants and parents/guardians during and prior to programs.

- Manage organization and ordering of program supplies, maintain clean program space.

- Utilize industry best practices to help with peer-to-peer conflict and emotional regulation of participants.

Other Job Duties and Expectation:

- Serve as added support/staff for Camp Fire events or programs, which may take place outside of normal work hours, such as staffing outreach events and supporting other programs as needed.

- Perform general office and other various duties essential to operation of a small non-profit such as special projects based on individual skills.

- Work closely with the SummerKids management team and assist during extended care hours while mentoring Junior Counselors.

- Drive a 15-passenger van to and from site locations to complete service projects

- Schedule teen programs that accommodate teen schedules, including on evenings and weekends

Leadership Skills: Strong oral and written communication skills, able to communicate ideas, expectations, feedback and needs with coworkers effectively and empathetically. Ability to collaborate in teams, to be organized and to motivate and empower team members. Understanding of tactical and logistical needs of a successful youth program, organized. willing to take initiative and ask for help when needed, able to respond to situations or changes calmly and with flexibility.

Supervisory Skills: Able to manage varying schedules of staff, can independently problem solve when staff call out sick, understands how to give compassionate feedback and motivation to encourage staff performance and growth.

Project management skills: planning, organizing and executing projects effectively. Ability to envision development of new ideas and new programs while also refining current program structure to meet demand.

Education and/or Experience: Bachelor's degree in related field (Ex: education, non-profit management); or 3+ years experience managing, planning and executing youth programs or events; or equivalent combination of education and managing or supervising staff or a team.

Certificates, Licenses and Registrations: Valid Driver’s License

Physical Demands: Employee will be walking, standing, running, bending, crouching or stooping. Employee will occasionally lift light and heavy objects. For some programs, employee must be able to spend the majority of time outdoors and tolerate a variety of weather conditions.

Compensation: Annual salary starting at $39,000, with a final offer depending on experience.
