Company: Balance Point Tax & Accounting LLC – Central Oregon (Redmond/Bend) based, serving clients statewide

Hours: 10–20 hours per week (flexible schedule; more hours available during tax season)

Pay: $22 – $28 per hour (DOE)

Location: Remote (work from home) – Oregon residency and licensure required

Balance Point Tax & Accounting is a growing Central Oregon firm with offices in Redmond and Bend. We specialize in supporting small business owners and individuals across Oregon with tax preparation, bookkeeping, and payroll services. Our team takes pride in being more than “just the numbers” – we partner with clients to help them succeed. If you value professionalism and a personal touch, you’ll fit right in with our friendly, client-focused culture.

Position Overview:

We are seeking an Oregon Licensed Tax Preparer to join our team on a part-time, remote basis. In this role, you’ll prepare a variety of tax returns and assist with payroll processing for our small business clients. QuickBooks Online is our primary accounting platform, and we also utilize Patriot Payroll for many clients – so experience with either (or similar software) will help you hit the ground running. This position is ideal for a detail-oriented self-starter looking to keep their skills sharp year-round with flexibility in scheduling. During the off-season, hours are lower and flexible; during tax season (January through April), you can expect additional hours (up to full-time weekly hours if desired) to meet client demand.

Key Responsibilities: (include but not limited to)

Tax Preparation: Prepare accurate federal and Oregon state tax returns for individuals and small businesses. This includes reviewing client financial records (income statements, receipts, etc.), using our tax software (Drake), and ensuring compliance with current tax laws and regulations.

Client Communication: Conduct client consultations (phone/Zoom) to gather information and advise on tax outcomes. Provide friendly, professional support, explaining return results and addressing any questions.

Payroll Processing: Assist with payroll duties for several small business clients. This involves using Patriot Software to run payroll and communicate with clients.

Required Qualifications:

Oregon Licensed Tax Preparer (LTP) in good standing – required. (Candidates with an Oregon LTC or EA are welcome to apply and may be considered for expanded duties, but an active LTP license at minimum is a must.)

Tax Experience: At least 1–2 seasons of paid tax preparation experience (individual and/or small business returns).

Payroll Knowledge: Familiarity with payroll processes and forms.

Technology Skills: Comfortable using cloud-based applications and tax software. Experience with Drake Tax or similar tax prep software. Adept with email, PDF docs, and secure file sharing in a remote environment.

Communication: Strong customer service and communication skills. Able to explain tax matters in clear, simple terms and maintain a helpful, professional tone with clients via email and phone.

Organization: Excellent attention to detail and ability to manage your time to meet deadlines – especially during the busy tax season. Self-motivated to handle tasks independently when working remotely.

Work Setup: You must have a reliable high-speed internet connection and a secure, private workspace, as this is a fully remote position.

What We Offer:

Flexible Remote Work: Set your own schedule (within normal business hours) to accommodate your life. We focus on results, not clock-watching. Need to step away midday or prefer working early mornings? No problem, as long as client needs are met.

Competitive Hourly Pay: $22–$28 per hour to start (DOE), with opportunities for increases as you grow with the firm. Additional hours (and overtime pay, as applicable) are available during peak seasons if you want them.

Professional Growth: Work closely with an experienced Enrolled Agent/owner and a supportive team.

Supportive Team Environment: Although we’re remote, we stay connected. Expect regular team check-ins, quick support for questions, and a collaborative approach. We pride ourselves on a positive, balanced work culture.

Meaningful Work: Help Oregon small businesses thrive by ensuring their taxes and payroll are handled accurately. Your contribution will directly support entrepreneurs in our community.

If you are a licensed Oregon tax preparer with payroll know-how looking for a flexible part-time role, we’d love to hear from you! Join Balance Point Tax & Accounting and help us provide top-notch tax and accounting services with a personal touch.
