Central Oregon Truck Company is looking for an Assistant Controller to join our team. The Assistant Controller is responsible for the accurate and timely processing of payroll, accounts payable, and compliance with Sarbanes Oaxley. Additional responsibilities include monthly preparation of monthly journal entries and account reconciliation. The Assistant Controller will work closely with the Controller and President to support them in meeting the daily operational needs of the department and corporate compliance. In addition, this position will need to work cooperatively and collaboratively with all levels of employees, management and third parties.
This position requires knowledge of US GAAP, external reporting requirements and internal controls in accordance with Sarbanes Oaxley. The Assistant Controller must be able to multitask, establish priorities and organize efficiently to meet deadlines. This is a deadline driven position that will require overtime and occasional weekends.
ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES AND RESULTS
Oversee the daily completion of tasks for accurate and timely processing of Accounts Payable and Payroll
Process non-driver payroll
Prepare and review state and federal payroll tax returns
Preparing monthly standard journal entries in accordance with US GAAP and timely to meet COTC reporting timelines. Monthly standard journal entries include, but are not limited to, amortization of prepaids, expense accruals, debt advances, acquisition or sale of assets, etc.
Perform comprehensive and robust review of Sarbanes Oaxley documentation by review and analyzing evidence to identify issues
Assist in facilitation SOX audit with internal and external auditors during the annual to help coordinate requests
Performing monthly balance sheet account analysis and reconciling activity with supporting documentation
Developing easy to use spreadsheets that support general ledger activity
Answers accounting and financial questions by applying an understanding of accounting principles to general ledger transactions
Supports the Controller and President with all corporate reporting requirements
Assists the Controller and President with maintaining the accuracy of, and supporting documents for, lease agreements, debt agreements and other financial agreements
Maintains the organization of paper and electronic files that supports the general ledger activity
Prepare and submit all internal control documentation in accordance with Sarbanes Oxley requirements
Document the existence of internal controls and submit to corporate
Performs other accounting, financial or administrative tasks as may be required from time to time – quite often on short notice – by the President or Controller
QUALIFICATIONS (Education, Experience and Certifications)
At least 5 years related work experience
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting
CPA is preferred, but not required
