They have the machines and capabilities to produce one-of-a-kind footwear prototypes in Beaverton, facilities dedicated to hosting collaborative working sessions, and staff devoted to generating best in industry training courses around footwear product creation. The BFL partners with various groups across Nike such as footwear design, product creation, and innovation.WHO WE ARE LOOKING FORWe are looking for a candidate with the ability to blend an artistic eye for design with a technical engineering mindset. The job requires strong visualization skills to translate between 2D and 3D, as well as the ability to solve problems in creative and innovative ways. The candidate must thrive when working in a team setting with others who have different perspectives, backgrounds, and/or styles. Candidates should be comfortable dealing with ambiguity and demonstrate a positive attitude and a bias towards taking action and driving results.Additional Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education, experience or training
A minimum of 8 years directly relevant work experience
Experience in industrial design, apparel design, engineering, or other technical degree or an additional 3 years relevant work experience in a related field in lieu of degree, 11 years total.
Experience working in a manufacturing or technical capacity; at least 5 years direct footwear pattern engineering experience
Demonstrated ability to engineer complex footwear patterns from a 2D design sketch or 3D rendering, including new and innovative construction types or processes.
Advanced proficiency using footwear pattern CAD software, PROCAM Dimensions preferred.
Proficiency operating cutting, stitching, and other footwear manufacturing machines. Ability to create a lasted upper from start to finish and troubleshoot common technical issues.
WHAT YOU’LL WORK ONAs a Lead Concept Engineer in the Bowerman Footwear Lab, you will help to bring early footwear concepts to life by turning sketches into patterns and subsequently into real footwear prototypes. This work helps to accelerate decision making and set our overseas factory partners up for success. To accomplish this, you will:
Communicate with Nike footwear designers, developers, and engineers across multiple categories to understand their vision for the shoe.
Influence the design and technical direction of the project based on your expertise.
Utilize PROCAM Dimensions CAD software to translate design sketches into footwear patterns.
Create footwear prototypes using a combination of machinery and hands-on making, and/or lead teammates through the creation process.
Review and scrutinize projects for execution of key design details, adherence to best practices, quality of construction, and manufacturability.
Serve as a primary mentor for new Concept Engineers or other BFL prototyping teammates, supporting their overall learning and development.
Educate the greater Nike footwear community through your work to develop and deliver training content.
Lead cross functional team projects with moderate to large resource requirements, risk, and/or complexity.
