POSITION SUMMARY
Mechanic is a member of a team of 4 shop staff and will perform routine inspections, preventative maintenance, diagnostics and necessary repairs on heavy trucks (dump trucks, haul trucks) and heavy equipment, ensuring functionality and reliability and minimizing downtime.
MAIN DUTIES
Inspections, maintenance, diagnostics and repair on heavy duty trucks (dump trucks and haul trucks)
Inspections, maintenance, diagnostics and repair on heavy equipment (excavators, dozers, pavers, skid steers, etc)
Address needed work promptly to get equipment back to work with minimal downtime
Proactively keep stakeholders informed of repair status
Verify vehicle/equipment performance by conducting test drives and adjusting controls and systems
Read and follow wiring schematics and service manuals
Track all work performed, including labor hours and parts costs
May operate service truck for needed field repairs
Other duties as assigned

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, QUALIFICATIONS AND BEHAVIORS
Education: High School or equivalent
Experience: 3 year diesel mechanic experience preferred, but not required
License/Certification: Class A CDL preferred, but not required
Proficient with diagnostic software
In depth knowledge of heavy equipment/diesel machinery and hydraulic, electrical and other systems and their components
Aptitude in using various hand tools
Know how to operate shop tools, e.g. power drill, power saw, other related power tools, air tools, chipping guns and scalers, impact guns, cutting torch and gas welding equipment, etc.
Ability to follow established procedures and practices and read instructions, blueprints etc.
Must have manual dexterity and great attention to detail
Must demonstrate excellent attendance
Must adhere to company, state and federal safety requirements
Must be able to work in a team environment
Must pass pre-employment, random and post-accident drug screens
PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS
Ability to manually lift a maximum of 50 pounds. Manual lifting over 50 pounds requires 2 or more people
Ability to manipulate weight in excess of 50 pounds, using equipment such as dollies, machine lifts, etc.
Physical activities could include standing, lifting, twisting, turning, pushing, pulling, carrying, bending, stooping, climbing, and lying on your back.
We operate in all seasons. Dress appropriately for current weather conditions.
Exposure to extreme cold or hot temperatures while working outside.
Driving to/from and presence at job sites to repair downed equipment may occur, which may be during inclement weather
