This role supports the Historic PreservationThis position is a TEMPORARY, grant-funded role for up to 800 hours or until September 30th, 2024.Pay Rate: $23.35 HourlyLocation:ONSITE in Durant, OklahomaSchedule:Flexible up to 800 hours or until September 30th, 2024WEEKLY EARNED WAGE ACCESS IS AN OPTION FOR THIS POSITIONJob Purpose or Objective(s): As the Cultural Research Associate, you will conduct research to learn about and maintain historic and sacred objects that are part of the Choctaw culture. You will report to the Director of Historic Preservation.Primary Tasks:

You will contact museums and institutions, and examine their collections inventories to see if they contain materials from the Choctaw people

Research, examine and analyze inventories to see if they contain Choctaw human remains, funerary objects, sacred objects, or items of cultural patrimony.

Enter and maintain information in the appropriate database.

Locate information about Choctaw place names and historic sites through researching books, manuscripts, historic maps, modern maps, and conducting interviews with Tribal elders and enter this information into The Choctaw Register of Historic Places and the Choctaw Place Names ArcGIS databases.

Research Choctaw history and culture, publications, and presentations.

Perform other responsibilities as assigned.

Job Requirements:

BA/BS MS in Anthropology, Museum Studies, or Native American Studies or 4 years of directly related experience in lieu of education

Proficient in computers, computer programs, and web-based programs

Excellent Writing Skills

Willing and Able to learn Laserfiche, ArcGIS, and other products

Ability to conduct research

Ability to create and deliver community presentations

2 years prior research experience
