Job Number: 726 Riverside Research, an independent, not for profit organization chartered to advance scientific research, has an immediate opening in its Plasma Research Program. Riverside Research's Plasma Program performs experimental and computational research in topics such as ionospheric physics, plasma turbulence, electromagnetic wave phenomenology and interaction, and space weather physics. Riverside Research is focused on expanding its current research program and has an immediate opening for an experimental plasma physicist. This is a full-time position at Wright Patterson AFB. A successful candidate will perform basic and applied research in plasma physics, and work on contracts for the Department of Defense (DOD). The candidate must be a motivated researcher able to function independently without supervision, as well as in a team environment. Current efforts include the study of the phenomenology of electromagnetic and plasma waves in Earth's ionosphere and magnetosphere, the mitigation of plasma sheaths around hypersonic vehicles.All Riverside Research opportunities require U.S. Citizenship. Job Responsibilities:- Perform basic and applied research in experimental plasma physics, involving sources
- Plan, design, and conduct experimental testing and validation of theoretical models and numerical simulations
- Design and fabricate diagnostics for use in experiment
- Carry out both independent and collaborative research
- Publish research in peer reviewed scientific journals, and technical journals.
- Present results at external conferences, seminars, and or technical meetings
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Security Clearance
- PhD or master's degree in Plasma Physics, Mathematics, Electrical Engineering, or related field
- Very strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate effectively in a team environment as well as the ability to work independently
- Experience working in a laboratory
- Experience with programming (Matlab and/ or Python)
- Possesses knowledge in operation and analysis of plasma experiments and plasma physics diagnostics
- Record of achievement authoring scientific publications, technical reports and delivering scientific presentations
- Experience with plasma sources
- Knowledge of antennas, microwave circuits, and electromagnetic propagation
- Experience with programming in C or Fortran
- Experience developing control systems for scientific instrumentation
- Experience with modeling
- Experience working with Raspberry Pi computers
- Experience with a customer-service oriented environment
