Howmet Niles Operations, a melting, forging and finishing facility located at 1000 Warren Ave., is seeking an Off-Shift Superintendent to join its Operations Department. Under the direction of the Plant Manager, this position is responsible for overseeing the Production and Maintenance activities on a variety of shifts to include first, second, and third. The Superintendent institutes expectations set by the senior leadership team, audits performance, counsels Production Supervisors, trains, acts as a role model, and influences policies and practices to exceed set departmental goals. The Superintendent communicates continually with Operations Supervisors, Maintenance Supervisors, Process Engineers, and Plant Management. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Engaging the resources at their disposal to meet the focused area’s objectives as set by the Plant Manager in support of the operations flow paths. These objectives will be achieved without sacrificing a spirit of cooperation with other areas, so as not to detrimentally impact the vitality of Niles Operations.

Executing manufacturing operating plans in accordance with company policies, goals, and objectives.

Linking established processes and leadership to the areas of Environment, Health, and Safety.

Delivering determined financial objectives by reaffirming existing production goals to lead the team to a realization of these goals.

Executing lean and flexible production systems based on ABS techniques across all manufacturing operations to lower the plant’s breakeven point.

Executing plans for quality and process excellence to ensure consistent process compliance in terms of procedures, controls, and feedback.

Aiding in ensuring that adequate people development plans and succession plans are in place.

Aiding in the development of the skills and abilities of supervisors as realized through technical expertise, guidance, support, coaching, counseling, and leadership in the day-to-day activities.

Performing other duties as assigned.

Basic Qualifications

For this position to be successful, the incumbent should have:

A High School Diploma or GED, from an accredited institution.

Minimum 5 years of supervisory experience in a heavy industrial manufacturing environment.

Minimum 2 years of supervisory experience in a unionized environment.

This position is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), which requires U.S. person status. ITAR defines U.S. person as an U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident (i.e. ‘Green Card Holder’), Political Asylee, or Refugee.

Preferred Qualifications

For this position to be successful, preference is given to candidates with:

A Bachelor’s degree, from an accredited institution, in Business, Engineering, Supply Chain, or a related technical field.

The ability to effectively communicate (verbally and written) and delegate while maintaining forward motion on key deliverables.

A high degree of interpersonal skills to motivate and influence others, including those not under their direct supervision.

Demonstrated ability of problem solving, systems thinking, project management, and team building.

Working Conditions

This position involves a varying degree of exposure to risk of accident and requires following basic safety precautions. Work is normally performed in a shared work environment, divided between the shop floor and an atypical interior workspace. While not exposed to hazardous materials, this position requires wearing full PPE to protect from mobile equipment and hot materials when on the shop floor.

This position requires moderate physical activity, such as walking, sitting, and standing for extended periods of time.

This position also requires a willingness to maintain flexible work schedule and be available 24/7.
