The group assists in the fiber optic transport equipment engineering and operations. They will design fiber system optical and routes. Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Inside Plant optical engineering design.
Design network connections for AdTran, Xtran, SEL RTAC, and SEL Axion equipment in an electrical substation environment.
Design communication cabinets and rack face elevations.
DWDM, Carrier Ethernet and SONET system design, deployment, and support experience.
Fiber system optical and route design within electrical substation campuses.
Work with clients/customers to define requirements and scope projects.
Coordinate with Station Engineering and other Engineering representatives to design communications building compound layout.
Specify foundation, conduit, and power requirements for telecommunications buildings.
Specify, bid, and procure communications structure/cabinet.
Coordinate with Graphics and Documentation to ensure “redlines” are processed and included with “as-built” documentation.
Ensure all work activities are performed in accordance with policies, practices, procedures, standards, and rules of the company in compliance with regulations and procedures required by external agencies.
Work under minimal supervision.
Position requires up to 20% travel for site visits.
Education and Experience Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in engineering, engineering technology, computer science or telecommunications.
Two to five years of relevant experience with bachelor’s degree or eight years relevant experience without one of the bachelor’s degrees listed above.
Two to five years of experience in optical transport equipment engineering, technologies, operation, and with construction related methods, and procedures.
Two to five years of experience in Fiber system optical and route design experience.
Microwave system design, deployment, and support experience (Highly desired but not required).
Prior microwave path engineering experience (Highly desired but not required).
