Their depth and breadth of experience allows them to perform complex operations while using the newest surgical techniques, equipment and devices, including minimally invasive surgery, off-pump bypass, robotically assisted and percutaneous procedures. As a PRN Operating Room Service Assistant (ORSA), your primary duties include, but are not limited to:
Assisting in transporting patients.
Setting up operating rooms.
Maintaining and operating special equipment.
Providing limited assistance to surgeons, such as holding limbs/retractors, suctioning, and sponging wounds.

Maintains surgical instrument sets and equipment and ensures proper sterile conditions.
Cleans used instruments after surgery (this process may require assembly and maintenance of some instruments for proper cleaning and sterilization).
Ensures proper sterile conditions, orders supplies, stocks, and maintains storage areas in the Operating Room for service.
Assists in transporting patients.
Assists RN in maintaining a safe environment for the patient.
Other duties as assigned.
Education:
High School Diploma.
Certifications:
Sterile processing certification preferred.
Complexity of Work:
Within scope of job, requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
Must be able to work in a stressful environment.
Work Experience:
Minimum two (2) years experience in sterile processing preferred.
Physical Requirements:
Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination. Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time.
Frequently lifts and carries items weighing up to 25 pounds and ability to push, pull, and navigate supply carts weighing up to 200 pounds.
Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
Requires working under stressful conditions of working irregular hours.
Requires some exposure to communicable diseases or bodily fluids.
Personal Protective Equipment:
Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
