We are dedicated to enhancing healthcare access across our service area to address the overall needs of our patients and reduce healthcare disparities.Primary Patient Population:

Outpatient Setting

Different clinics will offer an opportunity to experience specific patient populationsPrimary skills utilized/learned:

Scheduling patients, obtaining pre-authorizations, registering patients, gathering/analyzing payor data

Performing basic medical screenings

Vital signs, specimen collection, bladder scan, EKGs, etc.

Medication & Vaccination administration

Wound care (suture/staple removal)

Assist providers with sterile and non-sterile procedures

Splinting and bandaging

Personnel Medical Assistant will work with :

RNs, LPNs, Nurse Practitioners (NPs), Medical Doctors (MDs)

HS Diploma or passage of a high school equivalency exam.

Meets one of the following:

Completion of a Medical Assistant program and has work experience in a Medical Assisting or acute patient care capacity, which includes school-sponsored externships.

Completion of a Medical Assisting-comparable military educational program for medics/hospital corpsman with an honorable discharge (if applicable).

Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for the American Heart Association (AHA) or obtains within 90 days of hire.

Knowledge of basic medical procedures and medical terminology.

Possesses critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision.

Ability to work in a stressful environment and exercise sound judgment, as well as organizational, multi-tasking, and problem-solving skills in a fast-paced environment with multiple providers.

Basic computer and data entry skills.

Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.

Demonstrates flexibility, initiative, and a strong work ethic.

Successfully passes the Medical Assistant pre-employment screening written test with a score of 80% or better and the pre-employment screening skills test with a 75% or better score. Current MetroHealth MTAs and MPAs are exempt from taking the test.

All qualified applicants must pass the PSR pre-employment screening test with a score of 75% or better and the post-employment test with a score of 80% or better.

Access to reliable transportation to travel to different sites within the Ambulatory Care Enterprise.

Able to work in assigned area(s) and any other clinic based on operational needs.

Preferred Qualifications:

6 months of clerical experience and experience related to patient care.

Active certification as a Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) through the National Healthcare Association (NHA), Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) through the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) through the American Medical Technologists (AMT).

Possesses one of the following:

1 year of work experience in medical billing, patient registration, and/or patient scheduling.

Education related to medical billing, patient registration, and/or patient scheduling from an accredited institution.

Possess a current certification as a Certified Healthcare Access Associate (CHAA) from the National Association of Healthcare Access Management (NAHAM).

Experience calculating proper dosage and administering specific medications under the direction of the provider, particularly pediatric immunizations, and converting across measurement systems.

Experience performing point of care testing, CLIA waived testing, wound care, dressing changes, specimen collection, and phlebotomy.

Experience assisting with various procedures and tests, such as pulmonary function tests.

Experience with Epic In-Basket management

For ENT, Ortho, and Surgery Clinics: Experience assisting with external fixator removal, flex sigmoidoscopy, hemorrhoid banding, collars, cast removal, incision & drainage, cystoscopy set up and clean up, thyroid fine needle aspiration biopsy, reductions, and splint placement.

Physical Requirements:

May sit, stand, stoop, bend, and walk intermittently during the day.

May need to sit or stand for extended periods.

See in the normal visual range with or without correction.

Hear in the normal audio range with or without correction.

Ability to lift 250-300 pounds with assistance.

Ability to push/pull up to 500 pounds with assistance.

Requires some exposure to communicable diseases or body fluids.

Requires some exposure to chemicals and cleaning products.
