DescriptionGeneral SummaryYou will provide technical expertise in control systems, including both PLCs (programmable logic controllers) and DCSs (distributed control systems). In this role you will support Michelman’s transition to Industry 4.0, developing standards and supporting our capital projects as we continue to install control systems throughout our manufacturing footprint.You must be a results-oriented individual who can build strong working relationships and function effectively at all levels of the organization. You must be able to manage and lead projects across multiple functions.Primary Responsibilities

Michelman subject matter expert and owner of our plant automation systems including our Process Control System

Manage interfaces with the process control system and help to set direction to transition our facilities towards Industry 4.0

Drive the expansion of the Siemens PCS7 platform across all Michelman sites, supporting capital projects as necessary

Establish corporate standards for Michelman Control Systems, including configuration, network architecture, instrumentation, etc

Establish appropriate procedures and expectations for management of our control systems, e.g. Interlock Bypassing

Provide technical expertise and engineering support to all capital projects requiring modifications or additions to the control system or field instrumentation

Lead and support projects or instrumentation and control portions of capital projects, supporting regional engineering efforts, reviewing design, specifications, etc

Provide high level troubleshooting for control system and instrumentation, when regional capabilities are exhausted

Implement minor configuration changes as requested by the regional team

Support project pre-commissioning, interlock testing, and commissioning activities as requested by the regional teams

Manage contractor support and service contracts for all configuration, maintenance and testing activities associated with the control system and field instrumentation

Establish required preventative maintenance program for all control system hardware, instrumentation calibration, interlock testing and verification

Other

Must be able to climb stairs, stand for extended periods of time, and safely lift up to 25 kg

Must be able to wear required Personal Protective equipment (PPE) for extended periods of time

Willingness to travel as the project requires

Must be able to sit for long stretches of time and work on a computer

Must be able to work flexibly to collaborate with colleagues in various time zones and support a global business

Critical Competencies, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of control system architecture and networking

Experience configuring/programming PLCs/DCS

Ability/Willingness to travel internationally as project needs dictate.

Proficient in standard business office software

Demonstrated independent work initiative, sound judgment, diplomacy, analytical ability and professional demeanor

Proven ability to think independently and handle projects through to completion

Formal root cause analysis training

Able to concurrently multi-task in a time sensitive environment

High levels of self-motivation, initiative, and interpersonal skill

Excellent presentation, written and oral communication skills in English

Able to work as a team cross-functionally, across-site and with contractors/service providers

Must have knowledge in process sensors and data acquisition

Strong interpersonal skills and strong team player

Good communication skills and writing skills

Knowledge of electrical systems up to 480V is strongly valued

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree (Electrical or Chemical or other Engineering) with 7+ years of experience as a controls engineer

Experience with Siemens PCS7 configuration, operation and maintenance is strongly valued

Experience and knowledge of industrial electrical power distribution systems and motor control is a benefit, but not necessarily required

GMP experience preferred
