Sr. Accountant

Description We are seeking a Sr. Accountant to join our team in the education industry at our location in Bowling Green, Ohio. You will be fundamental in managing financial accounting and reporting activities, specifically in relation to post-award grants. This role will see you heavily involved in general accounting operations, with a particular focus on restricted funds and the application of GAAP, GASB, and FASB standards. Responsibilities: Manage daily financial accounting tasks, ensuring accurate and efficient operation Support post-award grants accounting, including service contracts and state memorandums of understanding Maintain and update the general ledger regularly, ensuring all entries are accurate and up-to-date Review monthly transaction activity and prepare or review entries to the general ledger Reconcile general ledger accounts, focusing on those associated with restricted funds Implement new GASB announcements under the direction of the Associate Controller Assist with the preparation and review of the University's Schedule of Expenditures of Federal Awards (SEFA) Prepare various organizational reports such as the NSF Higher Education Research and Development (HERD) report Assist with cost share calculations and entries on a monthly basis Prepare year-end audit work papers and federal sub-award filings Provide fiscal assistance to Grants Accounting department personnel, Controller's Office, and the campus community Field questions and provide training related to restricted fund accounting. Requirements Proficient in Account Reconciliation with proven experience in balancing and maintaining accurate ledgers Demonstrated expertise in General Ledger management Capable of preparing and posting Journal Entries with high accuracy and attention to detail Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and its application in financial tasks Experience with Oracle, specifically in a financial context Familiarity with Oracle PeopleSoft, with the ability to navigate and use the software for accounting functions Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of various Accounting Functions in an educational setting Relevant experience in the education sector, particularly within a university setting, is preferred Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or a related field Detail oriented accounting certification, such as CPA or CMA, is required Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with university staff and students Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
