Work location: 5 CES - Minot AFB, NDThe primary purpose of this position is: To install, fabricate, repair, design, modify, troubleshoot complex industrial electrical systems and maintain various sophisticated electrical circuitry and systems, PLC controls, and equipment. Monitor and adjust recurring work and preventive maintenance schedules for approximately 400 base facilities, 15 Missile Launch Control Facilities and 150 Minuteman III ICBM Launch Facilities covering over 8500 sq. miles with over 1985 miles of general access and TE routes, lightning protection systems LPS, grounding systems, cathodic protection systems, fire protection, emergency warning systems, intrusion detection systems, emergency light systems, complex industrial control circuits, supply distribution panels, and high intensity lighting systems.Duties:

Installs, repairs, or replaces, modifies.

Troubleshoots electrical problems and specialized equipment by inspecting for defective equipment and faulty wiring.

Uses and maintains various types of hand and/or power tools, such as screwdrivers, pliers, wire cutters, soldering irons, cable pullers, hydraulic benders, and pipe threading machines.

Utilizes safety practices and procedures following established safety rules and regulations and maintains a safe and clean work environment.

Recruitment Knowledges, Skills, and Abilities (KSA):

Knowledge of safety regulations, practices, and procedures.

Knowledge of technical practices in order to plan, layout, install, modify, troubleshoot, and repair a variety of complex electrical systems without supervision.

Knowledge of electrical and electronic theory and instruments used in shop and trade practices, and of industrial electrical equipment, i.e., test lamps, multi-meters, circuit analyzers, circuit breaker testers, voltage recording meters, meggers, watt meters, ohmmeters, ammeters, earth ground tester, and infrared thermography.

Skill in using and maintaining hand tools such as, screwdrivers, pliers, wire cutters, strippers, cable pullers, drills, soldering irons, and manual or power conduit benders and threaders.

Skill in troubleshooting and tracing hard-to-locate defects or complex electrical problems.

Ability to use electrical drawings, blueprints, engineering drawings, and wiring diagrams and to install, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain various electrical systems, controls, and equipment without more than normal supervision.

Other significant facts pertaining to this position are:

May occasionally be required to work other than normal duty hours and/or Shift work may be required which may include overtime and/or irregular hours.

Position requires the ability to discern colors, contrast, and depth.

Professional certifications or an electrical license is desirable but not necessary.

May work with hazardous materials such as asbestos or accumulated waste. Employee will be required to wear protective clothing and gear on these occasions.

Must be able to obtain/maintain certifications to meet AFI and OSHA qualified and safety requirements, cathiodic protection requirements, lightning protection/grounding requirements.

Work may occasionally require travel away from the normal duty station on military or commercial aircraft to attend seminars, workshops, factory schools, and others for proficiency training.

Visually checks and accept the work of contractors for compliance with contract specifications on new construction/maintenance.

The work requires the employee to drive a motor vehicle. An appropriate, valid drivers license is required for the position.

This position has been designated by the Air Force as a Testing Designated Position (TDP) under the Air Force Civilian Drug Demand Reduction Program. Employee must pass initial and periodic short notice drug testing. Illegal drug use by employees in sensitive positions presents a clear threat to the mission of the Air Force, national security, and public safety.

Must be able to obtain and maintain appropriate security clearance.

Personal computer and related administrative skills are highly desired.
