Lateral Transfer Requirements:
Possess a current North Dakota Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certification or out of state equivalent licensing board certification;
Must be in good standing with current employing agency;
Must not be currently under investigation internally, criminally or civilly;
Must have three (3) or more consecutive years of law enforcement field experience;
Must be currently employed (full-time) as a licensed law enforcement officer w/full arrest power by a state, county or municipal law enforcement agency; OR
Have been laid-off or voluntarily retired within the past twelve (12) months from a qualifying law enforcement agency; AND
Were in good standing and eligible for rehire with the previous employing law enforcement agency.
The City of Dickinson utilizes the following previous/current employing agency minimum criteria to determine qualification for the lateral transfer program:
Fulltime service in a municipal law enforcement agency with a sworn staff of 10 or more officers.
Fulltime service in a county sheriffs office with a sworn staff of 15 or more deputies.
Fulltime service as uniformed state police officer or trooper.
Eligibility of a licensed law enforcement officer holding full arrest powers serving with a federal agency, a state bureau of investigation, a university police department or parole/probation office will be evaluated on a case by case basis by police administration.
