OverviewAs our Surgical RN at CHI St. Alexius Health Devils Lake, you will prepare patients for surgical procedures to ensure they receive excellent nursing care when they are at their most vulnerable. Every day you will review consent forms, answer questions and educate the patient about the procedure, complete preoperative assessments, and update family members on the surgery status during the operation.You are responsible for preventing any postoperative acute complications and intervening if complications from a surgery occur. You'll offer support to patients who are waking up from anesthesia post-surgery. This support can include maintaining a patient’s bandages, managing their pain, treating any postoperative nausea, and making sure that recovering patients get enough rest, nutrients, and fluids so they can heal.You'll observe a patient’s progress, recording their observations in the patient’s chart, and informing any attending physicians of changes to a patient’s progress post-surgery. Care for patients before, during, and after procedures
Care for outpatient IV therapy, blood transfusion, and wound dressing change patients
Complete and accurate documentation of care
Demonstrate a high level of compassion for patients
Assist surgeon and surgical team in the OR
Ensure operating rooms are prepped with all necessary equipment and supplies
Qualifications
Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
Active North Dakota (ND) Registered Nurse License.
Compact RN license holders must obtain North Dakota licensure within 90 days of start date, if employee resides in the state of ND.
Basic Life Support (BLS) by American Heart Association (AHA)
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) by American Heart Association (AHA)
Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) by American Heart Association (AHA)
