All applications must be received by on Aprilll 19th by 5:00 pm.POSITION TITLE: Full Time Firefighter FLSA Status: Non-ExemptAgency: Bismarck RuralFire Department Reports To: CaptainDISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICSThe full-time firefighter performs numerous duties daily associated with ensuring the operational readiness of the fire department while also conducting operational level tasks and assignments during calls for service or emergency operations.The role of the full-time firefighter includes combating and suppressing fires, responding to emergencies and other calls for assistance, and protecting the health and welfare of the community we serve. The full-time firefighter will operate and maintain department tools and equipment as well as maintain the buildings and grounds of the various properties owned or leased by the Fire District.Work involves protecting life and property through the performance of firefighting, emergency medical services, and rescue activities. Full-time firefighters are required to participate in the operation and maintenance of different types of fire apparatus. Full-time firefighting personnel also are required to be able to perform various tasks under stressful and hazardous conditions. These conditions may be mentally challenging and require strenuous physical exertion under such handicaps as heat, smoke, and cramped surroundings. A portion of the work requires training and practicing job-related skills.REPORTING RELATIONSHIPSDirectly reports to, collaborates with, and receives general direction from the Fire Captain. Indirectly reports to the Assistant Chief and Chief.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Must be legally authorized to work in the United States

Must be a minimum of 18 years old

Must be able to respond from primary residence to an assigned fire station in 30 minutes

Must have successfully completed a high school diploma or GED program

Must possess a valid driver's license

Must obtain a ND Class B CDL with tanker endorsement within one year of employment and maintain the license thereafter

Must pass a pre-employment physical and drug testing

Must pass an extensive background and criminal record check

Must obtain (at the candidate's expense) the Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification within two years of employment and maintain the certification thereafter

Must obtain certification to the Firefighter II level as set by the North Dakota Firefighters Association within 12 months of hireESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Essential job functions are the fundamental duties of the position and the things a person holding the job absolutely must be able to do.Responds to emergency and non-emergency incidents, which may include: fires, EMS calls, hazardous materials incidents, extrications, specialized rescues, natural and man-made disasters.Shares responsibility for the daily implementation of department safety standardsImplements tactics to protect life safety, incident stabilization, and property conservation.Operate radiosand other forms of communication equipment.Drive and operate various fire apparatus.Works closely with higher-ranking Officers and Chief's.Performs salvage operations such as sweeping, diverting water, removing debris, and general clean up duties.Pre erves evidence and may be required to maintain scene security until appropriate investigations are completed.Maintains the cleanliness of department vehicles, equipment, and properties.Inspect, test, and perform maintenance, as needed, on department vehicles, tools, and equipment.Write reports related to inspections of department vehicles, property, or equipment.Submit various reports related to calls for service, inspections, and other functions of the position as required.Perform repairs and maintenance of department buildings.Attend training to enhance firefighting skills, pre-hospital care, and other areas.Maintain all required certifications and training requirements.Coordinate and participate in fire prevention activities like fire inspections, preplanning, and public education events.Ability to pass annual SCBA fit testing and regular health screenings as determined by the department.Position requires working shifts that include nights, weekends, holidays, etc. and, in addition to that, personnel may be required to be on-call as needed t
