Intern - Ricoh 3D for Healthcare, Research and DevelopmentPOSITION PROFILEThe Research and Development (R&D) Intern is a temporary position over the course of either a full-year co-op program (approximately 42 weeks) or on a semester basis while in school (approximately 12 – 16 weeks) with the Ricoh 3D for Healthcare team. The internship provides students with the opportunity to learn and develop R&D and product development skills. From initial research, including market analysis and feasibility testing, to production in a certified medical device manufacturing facility, interns will gain valuable insights into the medical device development process. Interns will be predominantly involved in the design and development of patient-specific products. Must be a local university/technical college student within the vicinity of Winston-Salem, North Carolina.JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESInterns will be presented opportunities to gain skills in the following:
Product development: learning the process of designing, prototyping, and testing new medical devices.
Regulatory knowledge: understanding the regulatory requirements and standards for Class II medical devices.
Data analysis: analyzing experimental data to inform device design and improvements.
Material science: gaining knowledge about the materials used in the 3D printing process for patient-specific medical devices and their properties based on the required user needs.
Risk management: identifying and mitigating risks associated with product development.
Technical documentation: preparing detailed technical documents and reports to support product development phases.
Innovation and problem-solving: developing innovative solutions to unmet clinical needs and improving existing products.
Cross-functional collaboration: working with various team members and clinicians to advance product development and generate new ideas for product portfolio expansion.

QUALIFICATIONS (Education, Experience, and Certifications)
Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Biomedical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, or related field.
Clinical interest or background desired.
Medical device interest or background desired.
Coursework with CAD software and 3D printing background is preferred.
Coursework in a laboratory where chemicals are handled is preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Understanding of Biomedical Engineering, 3D printing, experimental design and testing.
Ability to read and analyze scientific/technical publications, patents, reports.
Ability to design a methodology using a statistical approach.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Eagerness to work with clinicians and healthcare providers.
Ability to work independently on initial research/scoping, to analyze existing literature and their results, to determine current trends and gaps in the market.
Conducting themselves professionally.
Completing all training assigned by Ricoh corporate and the Ricoh 3D team.
Strong problem-solving skills.
Ability to analyze and present any given subject in a clear, concise, and logical manner both orally and written.
High level of attention to detail.
Natural curiosity and willingness to learn.

Work is performed in multiple types of environments including typical office and light manufacturing, and within the hospital or clinic.
Minor physical effort is required, which may involve long periods of standing, walking or similar activities.
Remote and in-person meetings are required.
Requires moderate dexterity, regular application of basic skills (calculator, keyboard, etc.)
Requires strong written and verbal English language skills to communicate with key stakeholders.
