Description of WorkThis position with NCDOT offers fullState Benefits (https://oshr.nc.gov/state-employee-resources/benefits) , competitive salaries and many career development opportunities. This position supports the Division 5 / Beryl Road Resident Engineer’s Office. This is the highest level of advanced technical work supporting engineers in functional areas such as highway construction, construction inspection, engineering coordination, and construction traffic control. Work involves an extremely wide range of decision making and use of judgment and includes supervising and providing work direction to others. Position may function as lead inspector conducting independent complex inspections themselves and supervising lower level inspectors through at least one project inspector while also performing complex inspections of roadway and structure construction processes and materials to assure compliance with contract agreements, standards and specifications. Work may include independently testing and inspecting the most complex or controversial roadway and structure construction work, resolving materials and methods compliance problems with contractors, and overseeing or performing the inspection of major or complex structure construction projects. Work may include training and instructing other technicians including reviewing their work for accuracy and completeness. Employee must be able to obtain and maintain certifications required to perform material sampling and testing related to the position.Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / CompetenciesApplicants must submit an application that clearly reflects work experience that demonstrates the following:

Additional Expectations:The employee must be able to legally operate a motor vehicle. This employee will be expected to promote a safe working environment. This employee should possess the ability to understand, explain and administer contracts, interpret plans, provisions and specifications, train other employees and plan, coordinate and supervise work. The employee should have the ability to communicate, establish and maintain working relationships with co-workers, management, contractors and the general public. This employee should have the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. This position will require work in extreme temperatures and uneven terrain conditions for extended periods of time. Thorough knowledge and ability to utilize HiCAMS System with respect to contract tracking applications. Ability to utilize personal computers and iPads in utilization of HiCAMS Operations, Shareplus and NCDOT email. Accurately maintain daily records of work accomplished. May be required to work nights, weekends, holidays and extended hours as necessary.
