A Snapshot of Your DaySiemens Energy - Winston Service Center is seeking an experienced and hands-on Materials/Coating Technician! A successful candidate in this position will support projects that deliver thermal coating processes for engine runs and new land-based power generation turbine components. The position also provides ongoing shop floor support for the application of coatings within Siemens Energy Gas Turbine Service Division.How You’ll Make an ImpactPrimary responsibilities will include:
Support qualification of processes for gas turbine blades, vanes, and other components by means of high-velocity-oxygen-fuel spraying (HVOF) and plasma spraying (APS)
Support of development and qualification projects (scheduling, design of experiments, experimentation, reporting, documentation) with accountability to do dates, results, and costs associated with your field of activities
Collaborate with suppliers and other thermal spray resources to industrialize technologies for masking of components. Hard, silicone, tape, liquid, gel, etc. to reduce production costs.
Work with metallurgic lab for qualification and day-to-day production support. Interpret microstructure results to standards.
Participate in SPC data collection and analysis, maintain alignment with controls in place for improving capability of the production process.
Maintain tooling and equipment for coating processes
Support project leads in development and qualification programs through all phases, conception, R&D, qualification, production implementation, and continued production support
Set and operate coating booths, powder feeders, guns, fixtures, and robots. Tune parameters during development qualification. Collaborate with programmers to optimize results.
Lead maintaining various feed systems. work instructions, procedures, key cards, and related manufacturing repair documentation for coating operations.
Support operations during the transition of improvement projects from development to production, while also assisting with creation and control of qualification and process documentation
What You BringRequired Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience
Experience in the application of thermal barrier coatings of gas turbine coated components to OEM requirements.
Familiar with product and manufacturing drawings and specifications that define coating and masking requirements.
Proficient in thermal coating application processes and equipment particularly HVOF and APS application of MCrAlys and TBCs
Proficient in identifying, analyzing, and correcting coating process issues such as porosity and thickness control.
Knowledgeable in robot programs for Fanuc and ABB Robots prepared in Fanuc Karel, Fanuc TPP, ABB Rapid for thermal coating applications for thermal spray coatings.
Competence in the metallographic examination of MCrAlY, TBC and hard-face thermal coatings to specification requirements. and maintaining coating torches and coating powder feed systems.
Proficient in using process control for coating application
Knowledge of special processes (i.e. shot peen, abrasive blast, welding,) used in repair/preparation of components for coating is a plus.
Familiarity with component masking equipment and tooling
Willing and capable to learn Robot Master for programming of thermal spray over a 6–12-month period
Ability to learn CAD/CAM systems and product data management systems, preferably Siemens NX and Siemens Teamcenter
Extensive knowledge of MS Office.
Preferred Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience
Associate’s degree in mechanical, manufacturing engineering, machining technology, materials science or similar or 5 or more years of relevant technical experience in lieu of a degree
Knowledge and familiar with some off-line programming software usage
Flexibility in working non-standard shifts as needed
