Description of WorkThis position with NCDOT offers full State Benefits (https://oshr.nc.gov/state-employee-resources/benefits) , competitive salaries and many career development opportunities.This position will serve as anEngineering Technician IIIwithin the Reidsville Construction Unit. This position will perform inspections of roadway and structure construction, erosion control, and traffic control devices on a variety of contract construction projects to ensure compliance with contract plans, specifications, and standard drawings. Verify work performed by contractors is in accordance with plans, specifications, standard drawings, and special details. Maintain daily diaries, pay record books and other project documentation in accordance with NCDOT established practices, policies, and construction manual. Maintain all required NCDOT certifications for asphalt roadway paving, concrete testing, density testing, aggregate and borrow pit sampling and other certifications as required Serve as a Project Inspector of various type projects. This position will assist the Division as needed during emergencies and inclement weather. This position will also assist the Resident Engineer with other tasks as assigned. Additional Expectations:This position is responsible for performing advanced technical and entry level engineering and administrative duties. This position requires advanced technical work supporting engineers in functional areas such as highway construction, construction inspection, engineering coordination, and construction traffic control. Work involves an extremely wide range of decision making and use of judgment and includes supervising and providing work direction to others. Safety toe shoes are required. Selected applicant will be expected to legally operate a motor vehicle. Offer of employment will be contingent upon successful completion of NCDOT post offer employment evaluation.
