Internal Posting - Only Temporary or Permanent NCDOT Employees or layoff candidates with the NC Department of Transportation eligible for RIF priority reemployment consideration as described by GS-126 may apply.Salary Grade NC05Salary Range $32,639 - $57,117 Posting is for four Transportation Worker II Positions Nos. 60020181, 60020189, 60020223 & 60020259 located in Randolph County Maintenance. You only need to apply once to be considered for all four positions. Work will consist of a wide range of progressively responsible tasks in the preventive maintenance, repair, and construction of state-maintained roads. Routinely operate at least two pieces of Category B equipment in performing semi-skilled and skilled maintenance tasks, such as hauling asphalt, aggregate or soil materials; snow and ice operations; compacting asphalt, compacting embankments, sweeping roads; loading ditching material; and disposing of roadside debris. Employee hired into this position is expected to have a working knowledge of the principles involved in the operation and use of the equipment to which assigned. Manual labor includes, but is not limited to operating chain saws, shoveling, driving trucks, and litter pickup. Additional work includes installing traffic and erosion control devices, drainage/ditch maintenance, pipe and drainage structure installation, and flagging operations. Employee in this position is expected to perform assigned tasks and follow oral and written instructions as directed by supervisor. Work requires ability to climb, bend, traverse steep and uneven terrain, and exposure to extreme temperature conditions. Work may include lifting up to 50lbs repeatedly and exerting up 100lbs of force occasionally. Position is subject to emergency call back and may require work during nontraditional work hours including nights, weekends, and holidays.Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / CompetenciesApplicants must submit an application that clearly reflects work experience that demonstrates the following:

Working knowledge of standard road maintenance and construction procedures

Working knowledge of Work Zone Safety and Workplace safety policies

Experience in at least two pieces of Category B Maintenance equipment (asphalt distributor, asphalt mixer, asphalt patcher, crack sealing machine, ditching machine, force feed loader, front end loader, lube truck, asphalt maintainer, post driver, skid steer, street sweeper, tandem dump truck, tractor “A” boom mower, truck w/aerial device)

Experience in one of the following: pipe installation, installation of erosion control devices, snow and ice removal, ditch maintenance or asphalt patching

Additional Expectations: The selected applicant will be expected to legally operate a motor vehicle and have a valid North Carolina Class A Commercial Driver’s License. Either possession of a current Commercial Driver’s License on the date of hire, OR the North Carolina Class A Commercial Driver’s License must be obtained through completion of on-the-job training and all requirements mandated by Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (Federal Registry 49 CFR 383) within 360 days of the date of hire. Release forms ALCDRG-01 and ALCDRG-06 must be signed allowing NCDOT to check with previous employers for the past three years about controlled substances and alcohol.
