Description of WorkThis position with NCDOT offers fullState Benefits (https://oshr.nc.gov/state-employee-resources/benefits) , competitive salaries and many career development opportunities.Work involves the safe and efficient operation of farm-type tractor with attachments, specialized landscape equipment such as hydro-seeder, pesticide sprayer and mulch blower. Experience in pesticide applications. The selected candidate must be able to legally operate Class A CDL required equipment/trucks with both manual and automatic transmissions at the time of hire or within 360 days of hire date. Either possession of a current Commercial Driver’s License on the date of hire, OR the North Carolina Commercial Driver’s License must be obtained through completion of on-the-job training and all requirements mandated by Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (Federal Registry 49 CFR 383) within 360 days of the date of hire. Pre-employment drug testing is required for this position. As a condition of employment, a release form (ALCDRG-01) and a background statement (ALCDRG-06) must be completed and signed allowing the NCDOT to check with previous employers for the past three years about controlled substances and alcohol testing.Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / CompetenciesApplicants must meet both the Education Requirements and all 4 posting KSAs in order to qualify. Knowledge of vegetation management including but not limited to shrubs, trees, fertilizer, etc. using sound horticultural practices

Experience in applying herbicides to control weeds and brush

Experience in operation of pesticide applicator, truck, tractors and utility vehicles

Experience in a least one piece of Category B equipment (asphalt distributor, front end loader, dump truck, tractor “A” boom mower, mulch blower, sod seeder, tractor with sprayer attachments, brush chipper, conventional pesticide applicator, front end loader, hydroseeder, skid steer)

Additional expectations:Ability to operate assigned equipment efficiently and safely. Experience in seeding operations, plant bed installations and maintenance and application of pesticides. Ability to follow, understand and carry out instructions. Keep accurate records of work accomplished. Safely operate State vehicle. Ability to lift 100 pounds. May require work during non-traditional work hours, including nights, weekends, holidays and times of emergency.Preference will be given to applicant with valid NCDA Pesticide License Offer of employment will be contingent upon successful completion of NCDOT post offer employment evaluation.
