Position: Program SpecialistReports to: Executive Director of Secondary EducationTerms of Employment: 11 monthsPay Range: $4,217.27 - $7,789.68 monthlyFLSA Status: ExemptNature of WorkUnder general supervision, performs a variety of administrative tasks in coordinating the successful implementation of district initiatives, programs, and curriculum as aligned with the North Carolina Course of Study. Employee is responsible for interpreting changes to the North Carolina Curriculum, informing administrators and district leaders of the implications of those changes, and ensuring that instruction is aligned with curriculum goals. Employees also assists the district with textbook and other materials selection. Employee provides leadership in ensuring the programs, initiatives and various tools for secondary schools are being utilized effectively to aid instruction. Employee assists district administrators with evaluating the effectiveness of instructional programs in the school system and develops strategies for improvement. Serves as a district resource/contact of instructional programs, resources, progress monitoring, and professional development throughout the district. Reports to the appropriate supervisor.Knowledge, Skills and AbilitiesPossess communication skills of listening, oral communication and oral presentation; interpersonal skills and abilities; extensive knowledge of teaching techniques, curriculum, and professional development. Skilled in facilitating teams supporting results-oriented goals. Demonstrated knowledge of standards aligned instruction. Ability to present to adult audiences. Ability to collect and analyze data from a variety of sources. Must have strong work standards for self and others.Performance Responsibilities/Essential Functions

Coordinate the district programs, ensuring that federal, state, and district requirements are met.

Research, develop, or coordinate unified curricular programs as required.

Coordinate selection of instructional programs that are research based and proven effective for student achievement.

Develop a comprehensive list of instructional programs being used from the district level; serves as the contact for those programs.

Maintain an awareness of current research and curricular trends and disseminate information to applicable personnel throughout the district.

Participate in cooperative long-range planning with other departments to make the most effective use of resources.

Plan and implement professional development opportunities that address both current research and future instructional needs.

Assist with the overall evaluation of district initiatives and programs and develop strategies for improvement; coordinate and provide staff development opportunities.

Coordinates all phases of programs and initiatives from initial implementation to ongoing training, to implementation and monitoring for effectiveness.

Assist (where needed) with the development of district assessment tools.

Keep parents, administrators and the community informed about various district initiatives to resolve educational issues.

Collaborates with other content specialists to provide an integral program.

Travel between district sites as needed.

Locate additional resources and assist in the development of grants as available and appropriate.

Coach and mentor colleagues.

Serve as a liaison to outside agencies in order to articulate the mission of the district, seek additional resources, and administer guidelines.

Continue learning best practices in instructional strategies and intervention.

Plan and implement professional development opportunities that address both current research and future instructional needs.

Fulfill the terms of an affected written contract and adhere to the Code of Ethics for NC Educators.

Assist in the enforcement of ll federal, state, and district regulations, policies, and procedures.

Work positively and collaboratively toward meeting identified district improvement goals.

Recommend curricular adjustments to meet the learning needs according to district and/or school trends.

Provide outstanding customer service and use positive interpersonal communications skills.

Make all decisions and perform all tasks in accordance with Craven County Schools policies and procedures.

Ensure compliance with Board rules and applicable federal laws and regulations.

Perform other duties as assigned commensurate with the skills and abilities of the position.

Education and Experience

Bachelor's Degree with instructional certification in education; Master's Degree preferred

Must be certified to teaching in the state of North Carolina and hold a current teachers license

Five years of classroom experience required

Master's Degree from an accredited educational institution preferred

Valid North Carolina Driver's License

Physical RequirementsLight work: Exerts up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or move objects.
