"INTERNAL POSTING-Only temporary or permanent NCDOT employees or layoff candidates with the NC Department of Transportation eligible for RIF priority reemployment consideration as described by GS 126 May Apply.”Supervise and directly work with the assigned Guilford Bridge Maintenance Crew in the maintenance, preservation, rehabilitation and replacement of Department owned and maintained bridges, culverts, and pipes in Guilford County Ensure a safe and well-maintained infrastructure at the specified level of service. This involves inspection, scoping, assessment, planning, scheduling, and ordering materials, performing the work and documenting the work and materials utilized during these operations. Utilizing quality construction and maintenance techniques, practices, and material in the performance of these duties. Manage the assigned Bridge Maintenance office, maintain the bridge maintenance facility and equipment, reconcile invoices, oversee contractor’s work and inspections. Apply and develop techniques to safely, effectively and efficiently implement maintenance, repairs, conduct preservation and rehab projects. This includes administrative duties that involve personnel. Supervises the crew’s daily tasks; reading and interpreting construction/repair plans; monitoring and review of daily work assignments; adjusting project plans to meet field conditions; planning, monitoring and ensuring safety standards are adhered to; documenting material inventory and equipment usage. Experience in operating a computer to perform job duties including but not limited to daily job reports, inventory, annual personnel reviews, receiving and sending daily job assignments to subordinates.
Working knowledge of standard bridge maintenance procedures.
Experience in calculating quantities of material needed for work crews to perform daily functions.
Experience supervising a crew or crews.
Additional Expectations:Establish and maintain positive lines of communication with other workers, engineers, contractors and general public. Perform record keeping manually and electronically. Position will be expected to exert more than 100 lbs. of force occasionally, 50 lbs. of force frequently and 10 lbs. of force constantly to move objects. Selected applicant will be required to work suspended at moderate heights, confined areas, over water, in water, in extreme heat and cold, during inclement weather and must traverse steep and uneven terrain. Selected applicant must have the ability to work nights, weekends and holidays as needed. Selected applicant will be working in roadway or on the shoulder adjacent to the traveling public in heavy traffic at interstate speeds near heavy equipment while working safely and following instructions to complete tasks. Safety toe footwear is needed. Selected applicant is expected to legally operate a motor vehicle.The selected candidate must be able to legally operate Class A CDL required equipment/trucks with both manual and automatic transmissions and have a Tanker (N) endorsement at the time of hire or within 360 days of hire date. Either possession of a current Commercial Driver’s License on the date of hire, OR the North CarolinaCommercial Driver’s License must be obtained through completion of on-the-job training and all requirements mandated by Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (Federal Registry 49 CFR 383) within 360 days of the date of hire. As a condition of employment, a release form (ALCDRG-01) and a background statement (ALCDRG-06) must be completed and signed allowing the NCDOT to check with previous employers for the past three years about controlled substances and alcohol testing.Offer of employment will be contingent upon successful completion of NCDOT post offer employment evaluation.
