Will primarily perform location of natural gas lines and facilities
installs natural gas pipe in ditches
manually digs around various utilities
pressure tests steel and plastic natural gas lines
participates in the repair of third-party damage to natural gas lines and various types of gas leaks
uses self-contained breathing apparatus equipment
completing pipe maintenance activities
installs test charts
installs leak repair clamps
repairs tracer wire
safely drives a company vehicle
sets up common Department of Transportation approved work sites and effectively flags traffic
maintains the vehicle inventory
uses WebTMS software
completes a variety of paperwork in writing, as well as, uses a computer
Operator Qualifications involve written guidelines and requirements natural gas employees must follow to ensure the safe and responsible operation of natural gas pipelines. Required, annual Operator Qualification testing involves both written and hands-on components to ensure those who perform covered, safety-sensitive tasks on the natural gas system are trained, knowledgeable, and qualified.
This position reports to Dominion Energy North Carolina's Gastonia Operations Center in Gastonia, North Carolina.There is one position which will be filled at the level commensurate with the successful candidate’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities.Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & ExperienceTrainee-Gas (0-6 months experience)Gas Operations and Maintenance Specialist I (at least 12 months' experience)Gas Operations and Maintenance Specialist I (at least 36 months' experience)highest level an outside applicant can be hired Knowledge and skill with common hand and power tools (i.e. shovel, screwdriver, pipe wrench, drill, reciprocating saw, etc.). Ability to be fit tested for self-contained breathing apparatus equipment. Effective communication and interpersonal skills for positive customer and contractor interactions is critical. Ability to work as a team member within a diverse team. Basic computer and internet navigation skills are key. Availability for natural gas emergency response during the workday, as well as in the evenings and some weekends when on-call. Must be willing and able to meet a 45-minute emergency response time from the geographical center of the Gastonia area. Emergency response time is a critical measure for the Company and candidates are required to consistently meet this requirement, including when on-call. Occasional heavy lifting up to 80 lbs. independently. Ability to adhere to safe working and driving procedures.Preferred Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience: Good mechanical aptitude.
