Description of WorkThis position with NCDOT offers fullState Benefits (https://oshr.nc.gov/state-employee-resources/benefits) , competitive salaries and many career development opportunities. This posting is for a Transportation Worker III in the Division 9 Traffic Services Unit. The primary purpose of this position is to serve as centerline operator on the long line paint machine and will be required to operate all pavement markings equipment, pre-line, and/or inspect pavement markings, as needed. This position is stationed in Forsyth County, but work will be performed across all 5 counties in Division 9. This position will assist with installing, maintaining, and replacing thermoplastic and paint type special markings on State maintained roads in Division 9, in compliance with NCDOT Standards. This will include the necessary pre-lining of special markings and/or long line markings. As needed, this employee would also inspect the installation of pavement markings, by contractors. In addition, this position will be subject to 24-hour emergency response for the repairs of damaged regulatory signs, installation/maintenance of emergency detours, and snow & ice removal. The employee in this position must possess an intermediate level of experience in pre-lining and the operation of thermoplastic & paint machines. Must be able to properly install or manage the installation of temporary traffic control as needed, In accordance with NCDOT Standards. Ability to plan and carry out assigned projects independently. Must be able to communicate effectively with various people across multiple organizations, as well as with the public. This position requires the ability to work in outside environments, including extreme heat and cold, year-round. This position must apply safety philosophy to all operations. Must be able to lift or carry up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or more than 50 pounds of force frequently and/or 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. The employee will be required to work hours other than regular schedule due to emergencies and heavy workloads. This position is labor intensive, and the employee will be required to work in a diverse working environment; in all weather conditions, heavy traffic, and traffic moving at high speed. The employee must be able to follow oral and written instructions.Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / CompetenciesApplicants must submit an application that clearly reflects work experience that demonstrates the following:

Experience in supervising a Special Marking crew or a Pre-line and Passing Zone crew

Knowledge in Advanced Work Zone Safety and NCDOT Workplace Safety practices

Experience as a Lead Worker overseeing a Pavement Marker/Delineator crew or a Special Marking Crew

Experience in at least two pieces of Category B equipment (paint truck, pre-line paint machine, asphalt distributor, asphalt mixer, asphalt patcher, crack sealing machine, ditching machine, force feed loader, front end loader, lube truck, asphalt maintainer, post driver, skid steer, street sweeper, tandem dump truck, tractor "A" boom mower, truck w/aerial device)

Experience in disassembling, cleaning, and repairing spray devices and components parts for pavement marking machines

Additional Expectations:The selected applicant will be expected to legally operate a motor vehicle and have a valid North Carolina Class A Commercial Driver’s License with Tanker (N) endorsement.
