The position reviews driveway permits, encroachments, road additions, road abandonments. This position assists with the development of the secondary road construction program, including, but not limited to, surveying, permitting, funding, and utility coordination. This position assist with conducting engineering studies and projects, preparing technical letters and reports, attend planning/zoning meetings, and provide DOT comments to developers. Assignments may include budgeting, computing preliminary construction estimates for several alternate highway designs by developing layouts of interchanges, typical sections and grades, computing horizontal designs such as circular and spiral curve elements, offset distances between two alignments, points of intersection of curves, spirals, and tangents; and transitions between roadway sections. Incumbent may develop thoroughfare plans for small towns, counties, and planning regions; perform smaller highway systems studies; or prepare recommendations and supporting analysis for more routine highway projects. This person will evaluate data collected by field personnel and incorporate the information into transportation studies; review contract plans, specifications, agreements or provisions for accuracy and completeness; develop and maintain official records of the State road system; develop project schedules; develop standard drawings and design manual details; roadway design and layout; and assigning work to technicians. This person will assist higher level engineers in the design and contract preparation of roadway and structure construction projects. Work may include other duties and responsibilities as assigned.Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / CompetenciesApplicants must submit an application that clearly reflects work experience that demonstrates the following:
