Position Summary
We are seeking a safety-minded Crate Builder for full-time employment in our newly purpose built Charlotte woodshop to be a key contributor in assuring our services meets or exceeds our customers’ expectations. At Atelier 4, we specialize in crating and packing of all forms of fine art and work on many challenging and exciting projects. This job offers a unique insight into the art world from the perspective of the artist, gallery, museum, and collector. Atelier 4 Inc. provides installation, transport, packing and crating for all forms of fine art. All applicants must have positive, progressive attitudes and experience working in groups.
Job duties
Measure, cut, assemble wood crates, packing cases, and customized containers
Follow written plans and building instructions assuring quality in construction & assembly
Cut & shape interior foams, packing trays, receive training in placement of artwork
Clean equipment, tools, and shop areas to maintain orderly & safe operation
Compliance with general safety & OSHA regulations
Qualifications
2 years plus in crating and carpentry work experience including understanding basic carpentry techniques using saws (table & chop), routers, pneumatic nail and staple guns, lamination, glue application and various power and hand held tools.
Experience as a woodworker with a hands-on background in crating, creative/sculptural wood work, cabinetry, furniture making or general carpentry is a plus
Ability to read and understand drawings and specifications
Good communication skills and ability to work as part of a team
On time and deadline oriented
Knowledge of fragile goods handling or foam-fit packing is a plus
Minimum of high school diploma or equivalent
Physical Requirements/Work Environment
Regular and predictable attendance
Ability to lift at least 50 pounds as part of the daily activity
Ability to work extended periods of standing, bending, lifting and/or driving
Ability to effectively communicate with others (verbally and in writing)
Drug Free environment / safe work environment
Training will be provided in company methods and protocols in crate building. Training will take place in the NYC office as well as on-site in Charlotte
Some travel may be required for site visits to assess crating needs (company funded)
Full –time work – NOT gig work

Pay Range: $21 to $25 per hour DOE
