Senior Product Manager - FAS Strategy and Development

The Senior Product Manager will lead our Holistic Planning Product Family and serve as the dedicated Product Manager for Vanguard Retirement Optimizer (VRO), our newly launched SaaS product. This role will play a central role in helping to refine, expand and scale VRO as we move from pilot to fully scaled product. VRO is a divisional priority and first SaaS business venture of its kind within FAS. It also contributes to the enterprise-level advice agenda. In addition to driving VRO success, this role will also support new offer development efforts in the planning space, as we seek to discover, test and expand our portfolio of planning-related digital products.In this role you will- Hires, evaluates, and supervises crew. Provides guidance and training as necessary to develop crew. Sets performance standards, reviews performance, and makes informed compensation decisions in accordance with all applicable Human Resources policies and procedures.
- Establishes short-, mid-, and long-term vision and strategy for their assigned product line, incorporating input from a wide-array of sources, including: prioritized use cases, strategic business partners, competitive landscape / industry trends, technology vendors, internal methodological thought leadership, engineering capabilities, and primary research.
- Develops and maintains ownership of the multi-year functional development plan for their global product line. Communicates priorities to ensure all internal parties and aligned teams are operating toward a common goal.
- Manages prioritization of desired global product line enhancements and maintenance, implementation scheduling, and budgeting for the Product Line roadmap. Actively manages upward and downward project pressures and works with partners to re-align projects, programs, capabilities and costs to ensure cohesive and efficient technology development and implementation.
- Ensures best practices and methodologies around project management, governance, "right start" practices, change management, etc. are followed for all projects. Refine and execute best practices for business project management methodologies, integrate with IT processes, clarify roles and responsibilities for all projects.
- Ensures highly effective communications and business readiness regarding project status and issues occur regularly to key stakeholders in a variety of forums (Consumer Forums, Product Watch, Leadership mtgs, etc.). Establishes metrics (i.e Product Health) to evaluate Product effectiveness and progress. Clearly communicates recommendations and/or requests for information to a wide range of audiences throughout Vanguard.
- Conducts and stays abreast of external market research to ensure product line is meeting consumer expectations
- Provides expertise and information on various interrelated aspects of the business and technology management process.
- Assists senior management in the development of the departmental budget/departmental organizational structure.
- 4 year degree and 8+ years of relevant experience managing a product, project, or program teams or MBA
- 4+ years experience in advisor-facing asset management or advice technology product space
- Strong communication and influencing skills. Demonstrated success at partnering, prioritizing, and balancing needs cross-functionally.
- Experience with technology and ability to facilitate communication between business and technology teams
- Experience working in an agile environment (i.e. user stories, iterative development)
- Experience with legal and compliance, third party integrations and marketing channels
- Strong qualitative and analytical abilities with a passion for data-driven decision making
- Demonstrated success as a values-based leader who can build and maintain a culture of empowerment, ownership, and accountability
- Self-starter with a proven ability to set a vision and execute on a strategy while exciting and lead a cross-functional technical team
