We are excited with all that the future holds for our industry, planet, and communities.There is a new opportunity for a Sr. Controls Engineer to join Ameresco’s Engineering Team in Charlotte, NC. The Controls Engineer will lead the design, development, application, and implementation of control systems for biomass, landfill gas to energy, automated demand response, combined heat and power, alternative energy, and demand response projects throughout the United States.Responsibilities:Reporting directly to the Plant Automation Manager, the controls engineer will work closely with the engineering team to design, program and start up state of the art control systems for projects throughout North America;Provide project design support for the control systems of our projects, including reviewing P&IDs, developing project I/O lists and control narratives, and designing the control system network architecture;Develop control panel drawings using AutoCAD;Assist project managers with selection and procurement of project related hardware including instruments, control panels, network equipment, and servers;Assist project managers with selection and procurement of project related software including Human Machine Interface (HMI), Historian, Alarm notification, and reporting software;Perform Factory Acceptance testing of control panels prior to shipment;Develop custom Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) and HMI software for Ameresco projects;Integrate with third party equipment using industrial protocols including EthernetIP, Modbus, and others as required;Perform on-site loop testing and function testing of all control system components during project startup;Program servers with remote access capability to run HMI applications, data collection systems, “call out” notification systems and other programs and applications as required;Work with the Project Manager and the compliance team to ensure that data collection systems are in line with contractual and permit obligations;Provide support to Ameresco’s operations group which is currently operating 22 power plants and 6 gas processing plants throughout North America. This includes on-site work as well as remote computer support; Ensure compliance with company, industry, trade, regulatory and jurisdictional safety standards, practices, codes;Cultivate and maintain positive business relationships; andPerform other duties as required.Minimum Qualifications:Bachelor of Science in Engineering, preferably Electrical, Chemical, Mechanical or Electrical Controls discipline.Minimum 7 years’ industrial controls system design, programming, implementation, and commissioning work experience involving industrial mechanical systems or small-scale renewable power generation.Additional Qualifications:Experience developing process control sequences and programming for real-time environments. Strong preference will be given to candidates with a strong understanding of process design. A working knowledge of device level equipment and application is also preferred.Proven experience with Allen Bradley RSLogix5000 / 500 platforms and HMI and Historian software packages.Experience configuring and maintaining Microsoft Server operating systems in a virtualized environment.Experience configuring Ethernet-based networks using industrial control protocols including EthernetIP, Modbus TCP, and OPC.Familiarity with SQL Server databases.Control panel design experience using AutoCAD.Demonstrated ability to work independently, take initiative, and complete assignments.Excellent organization skills including ability to effectively manage multiple priorities.Excellent verbal, written, computer communication and technical presentation skills.A commitment to safety.Valid Driver’s License in good standing, issued by resident state required.May require flexibility for ‘on call’ support or varied schedule needsUp to 20% travel required.AMERESCO challenges the brightest, most talented and creative individuals in the industry by providing an environment that embraces initiative, diversity, and achievement along with comprehensive rewards, including people-oriented insurance, investment, and incentive plans.Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer/Women/Minorities/Veteran/Disability.
