Come join us on our journey to create solutions for a sustainable future!Chemist I, Architectural and Infrastructure – Charlotte, NCWhere the Chemistry HappensWe are seeking a Chemist I to work in the Dispersions & Pigments (ED) business unit as part of our Charlotte, NC company site.The Chemist I will execute technical service projects supporting architectural coatings in the development of paint formulations for existing products and new products entering the commercialization phase, troubleshoot raw materials to help provide recommendations to customers, and provide testing and analysis to our latex production sites. As we are looking for growth opportunities in our current portfolio, new test methods may need to be developed to demonstrate our dispersion and coating performance in adjacent application spaces. In addition, the Chemist I will coordinate lab work with stakeholders, collaborate with Technical Specialists, and is responsible for equipment, SOP/JSA, and writing reports. This position is part of the Architectural Coatings Technical Service team reporting to the Technical Team Leader.Formula for Success
Conduct technical comparison of BASF vs. competitive products (proactive to determine value proposition and reactive in case of customer request) and provide others with respective results/analyses/path forward.
Apply fundamental understanding of raw materials and structure property relationships to performs technical testing and assessment of products via application testing and other analysis, providing others with respective results/analyses and recommendation of next steps.
Identify opportunities to improve processes and contributes to competitive advantage in business
Actively participate in all BASF safety practices and programs
Write/revise ISO 9001 documents to maintain and improve work instructions/SOPs
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in chemistry or material science (or similar field). Advanced degree is a plus.
Minimum 3 years of experience in Architectural coatings or related industry
Strong laboratory skills and ability to work on multiple tasks and projects
Good verbal and written communication skills, reporting of results in presentation as well as documentation
Proficiency with MS Outlook, MS Word and MS Excel
Work effectively under minimum supervision and in a team environment
