Job description

With Educational Talent Search Program to provide encouragement and services to middle and high school students for completion of secondary school, and to promote post-secondary education for potential first generation college graduates. Work 100% of the time with the program. ETS is a TRIO program. Two years of academic, career, and personal counseling particularly with the program eligible population. Bachelor’s degree or a Master’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in counseling, the behavioral sciences or closely related field is required.

Provides support, guidance, and direction to students in a variety of situations and environments.

Student Recruitment at local middle and high schools.

Advises students in areas of admissions requirements, program requirements, admission status and the transfer of credit from other institutions.

Interprets and applies College admissions standards and policies in determination of student eligibility and standing.

Audits applicant files for completeness and accuracy; contact students for more information as necessary.

Determines applicant eligibility through the interpretation and evaluation of test scores, previous education and assessment of applicant transfer credits; recommend admission, rejection, or alternative action to requested program.

Counsels and provides advice to students regarding course selection and scheduling to ensure that program requirements, as well as future goals and objectives, are met.

Maintains student academic files; monitor student progress and achievements; identify academic and related problems, and provide guidance and advice as warranted.

Serves as a liaison between students and the community in an attempt to equate and meet the needs of both groups.

Responds to requests for information; assist students and staff with research, information verification, and problem solving.

Refers students to appropriate outside community agencies as for guidance and support; coordinate internal support services including tutorial, interpreting and note taking support.

Advises students regarding course work needs in order to meet educational program requirements and achieve individual long-term career goals.

Reporting to the program director, you will leverage your core skills in academic advising and communication to mentor students effectively. Your premium skills in public speaking and interviewing will enhance outreach efforts, while your relevant experience in education administration and recruiting will support program objectives. With a Master's or Bachelor's degree, you will play a vital role in fostering student engagement and promoting educational opportunities within the community.
