Hiring Range: $47,459-$50,236This is an INTERNAL POSTING open ONLY for temporary, layoff or permanent NCDOT candidates with the State of North Carolina eligible for RIF priority reemployment consideration as described by GS 126 May Apply.This position is located in the Bladen Maintenance Unit. Work will consist of a wide range of progressively responsible maintenance tasks in the preventive maintenance, repair and construction of State maintained roads. Responsibilities include installing traffic control, performing chip seal operations, performing crack seal operations, pavement repair, snow removal operations, inspecting contract work and operating heavy equipment. This position will operate various pieces of equipment including chip spreader, tandem dump truck, quad dump truck, front end loader, tractor trailer, lee boy asphalt maintainer, rollers, and other pieces as needed on the various crews. Work may require lifting up to 50 lbs. repeatedly. Work will require exposure to all types of weather conditions. Work requires the ability to work on uneven surfaces and slopes. This position is subject to emergency call back and scheduled night work during adverse weather or other circumstances. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / CompetenciesApplicants must submit an application that clearly reflects work experience that demonstrates the following:
Working knowledge of standard road maintenance and construction procedures
Experience in one of the following: pipe installation, installation of erosion control devices, snow and ice removal, ditch maintenance or asphalt patching.
Working knowledge of Work Zone Safety and Workplace safety policies
Experience in operating at least two pieces of Category C or D equipment (such as backhoe, dozer, motor grader, scraper, low-boy or excavator) and trenching and shoring training.
Experience in snow and ice removal operations.
Additional Expectations:Ability to carry out complete oral and written instructions. Physical activities include but are not limited to standing, walking, talking, and hearing. Must be able to effectively communicate the English language. Exposed to extreme conditions such as ice, snow, difficult terrain, dust, extreme heat and cold, high volumes of traffic and heavy construction equipment. The selected candidate must be able to legally operate CDL required equipment/trucks with both manual and automatic transmissions at the time of hire or within 360 days of hire date.”. Pre-employment drug testing required. As a condition of employment, a release form (ALCDRG-01) and a background statement (ALCDRG-06) must be completed and signed allowing the NCDOT to check with previous employers for the past three years about controlled substances and alcohol testing. Safety toe shoes are required.
