Job purposeThe BorgWarner Arden campus offers two world class technical centers and a cutting-edge manufacturing facility that designs and produces turbos, fan, and fan drive components for the automotive industry. The Arden campus offers a multitude of career opportunities and is in the beautiful mountains of Western North Carolina.This position will provide quality engineering support to the assigned production operations to ensure the integrity of components and products produced by those operations and to aggressively drive quality improvement efforts with the goal of achieving “zero defect” performance.Key Responsibilities

Plan work and determine all necessary actions and tools to complete task.

Provide expert analysis, guidance and support to production-in-process improvement initiatives.

Support qualification of New Product Introductions and Verification of changes to current product.

Apply knowledge of inspection equipment and techniques to provide timely data usable for informed decision-making.

Investigate, contain and resolve quality issues in a proactive manner, including gathering data at customer locations, sharing information & data with plant in order to accurately assess situation & next steps.

Utilize analytical skill sets to implement root cause analysis and provide recommendations for corrective actions.

Utilize effective quality tools such as APQP and PPAP to support customers in new product introduction and upgrades/corrective actions to present products.

Conduct capability studies and accurately interpret and communicate results to appropriate personnel.

Support the release of machines and processes.

Maintain targets relative to machine capability, manufacturing scrap and the continuous improvement of such.

Develop metrics to promote customer satisfaction and management reviews.

Set priorities relative to the business plan, maintain focus on what is important and drive for results.

Participate as an effective team player in support of continuous process improvement.

Maintain confidential information.

Perform GRR activities on production gages and balancers.

Effectively utilize measurement system analysis (gage R &R, linearity, etc.) to provide recommendations on measurement equipment

Conducts process audits and supports control plan activities by reporting key characteristics.

Support PFMEA by participating and contributing input.

Travel to customer facilities to perform analysis, containment, and/or rework activity.

Develop and update Quality Systems documentation such as Control Plans, Quality Alerts, Work Instructions, and Deviations.

Understand and adhere to current health, safety, and environmental policies.

Communicates and enforces safe work procedures.

Identifies and assist in closing safety issues (suggestions, inspection and investigation findings) and their corrective actions.

Understand and adhere to current quality and control policies.

Initiate sorting activities and work with/supervise a third-party sorting company

Supports 8D investigation to help resolve issues, supervise containment activities, and implement corrective actions

Drive 8Ds to closure by being the lead quality representative and enforcing 8D targets.

Develop eQLRs, review results, and transfer the required information to all responsible.

Manages Quality Alerts – administration and assistance with training.

Interacts with and assist line personnel with scrap and reject investigations

Perform other duties as requested, directed, or assigned.

Attendance on the job is essential.

Monitor, control, and perform as the quality contact for a specified area.

Perform as the primary customer contact for the specified area

Maintain and drive continuous improvement actions within the specified area.

Maintain metrics in specified area and drive for adherence to goals.

Transport material as required using proper handling methods.

Keep work area in orderly condition with respect to proper materials, tools, equipment, and personal belongings. (Includes cleaning of equipment, floors, tables, etc.)

Maintain quality standards by following proper inspection procedures.

Understand and adhere to current health, safety, and environmental policies.

Understand and adhere to current quality and control policies.

Perform other duties as needed.

What we’re looking for

This position requires a High School diploma, GED, or equivalent.

Completion of technical training in Quality or Machining is preferred.

Technical degree in manufacturing, mechanical or industrial engineering or related discipline is preferred.

Minimum of five years experience in manufacturing environment.

Understanding of turbochargers, components and engines preferred.

Basic blueprint reading and GD&T knowledge required.

Knowledgeable in SPC and SPC charting development.

Knowledgeable in problem solving skills (i.e. Paretos, Fish Bone, etc.)

Knowledge of IATF 16949 is preferred

Must be PC competent with SAP, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Mini Tab.

Knowledge of QDAS and QDAS administration preferred.

Ability to operate and program CMMs, Hommels, MicroVu and 3D Scanners preferred.

Proficiency in the use of gaging associated with machining areas.

Must be able to follow instructions, safety rules and regulations.

Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Must have or be willing to acquire a forklift license for basic material movement as needed.

Must be willing to work off shifts as required.

Travel required: 5% – 25%

Customer interaction experience preferred

Competent in developing and updating Control Plans and PFMEAs

Competent in compiling, verifying, and presenting PPAPs per AIAIG and customer requirements.

Attendance on the job is essential.

Must be able to work in a team environment.
